Chapter 1

The banging on my front door was what awoke me out of my slumber. Whoever was at my door was a persistent bugger, because they were not letting up.

I groggily made my way to the door while drawing my robe string a little tighter around my body. I flung the door open while muttering curse words under my breath, this person was about to get an earful.

As soon as I opened the door, a mop of blonde hair attacked me, words stuck in my throat I could only stand there frozen like an ice sculpture. My best friend stood in my arms bawling her eyes out. I bet I could tell you what she was crying about before she even tells me.

“I am never getting back with that cheating, lying scumbag ever again!” She wailed.

I’ve heard this story a couple of times now; she means it as much as she means it when she says she hates chocolate. Who in their right minds could ever hate chocolate? Catch her on a Thursday night binge eating it like her life depends on it.

“Oh boy, what did Trevor do this time?” I asked in the most monotone voice I could muster.

I wasn’t going to act like I was sympathetic towards her right now. She disturbed my sleep for crying out loud, nobody and I mean NOBODY messes with my sleep.

“He dumped me for some girl called Ashley. Like who names their kid Ashley anymore, it’s the most common and basic name anyone could ever have. I bet she’s common and basic. I guess that’s how he likes them.” Cassie hiccupped.

For some reason, unbeknownst to me, she likes to torture herself with this toxic relationship that she’s in. Her and Trevor have been on and off since the day they met, why did they ever think it would work out between them?

“Cassie you need to let go of Trevor. Can’t you see he’s no good for you?” I said to her as gently as I could. I was trying to prevent another wailing fest.

“How can you say that Emma? He’s the first guy to ever make me feel complete.” She says looking up at me with tears streaming down her face. To be honest she kinda had that racoon look, where the mascara was running down her face mixed with the tears.

If feeling like absolute crap after the guy you gave your heart to is what she calls feeling complete, then I think I would rather skip out on this whole love thing.

“Never mind that, I have a great idea. Let’s go clubbing tonight, forget about that douche. He was never worth my tears anyway.” She perked up.

I groaned internally but I think it came through with the expression on my face. I did not want to leave my house tonight.

“Can’t we do something else to help you take your mind off Trevor other than going out. I’m not really feeling up to it.” I asked.

“Are you feeling ill?” She asked me with a concerned look on her face.

“No.” I answered.

“Then that settles it. We are going out no matter what you say. You owe me this much.” She pleads referring to all the times she would play wing woman for me. She did help me score some hot dudes.

I groaned audibly this time when I found that there was no way to change her mind about this. We spent the next three hours getting ready, with her forcing me in the skimpiest dresses she could find in my closet. Finally, she settled on a green dress that had huge V’s cut in the front and back, it came to mid-thigh. There was no way I could wear a bra with this, and god help me if I should bend over for any reason tonight, because the whole bar would be seeing what’s underneath this dress. I paired the dress with black peep toed heels and a small black clutch to store my phone and keys in, maybe even some gum.

My mop of brown hair fell in loose waves on my shoulders courtesy of Cassie styling it for me. If it were up to me, I would have just put up in a bun, Emma style.

I noticed the room had gone quiet, so I turned around to look at what Cassie was doing to see her staring at me mouth agape.

“What?” I asked self consciously while touching my hair and face. “Is there something wrong with me?”

“Yes, there is something wrong with you.” She answered. “Why have you never dressed more like this? You’re HOT.” She bellowed the last word.

I could feel my face heating up from her compliment. I hated compliments, they always made me feel self-conscious. I was always told I scrub up well whenever I actually make an effort, and since my crazy best friend is forcing me to do this, I will make an effort.

She was dressed in a sultry red dress with laces at both sides running down the full length of the dress, which was not much, it was also mid-thigh like my own. The same patterns on the sides was also on the front of the dress right at the bust area. She was going all out tonight; she was definitely going to kill somebody with that look.

“Talk about me, what about you? You look ready to give someone a heart attack with that look.” I praised her outfit for the night.

“I told you, we’re forgetting that douche ex of mine.” She smiled wickedly. “What better way to do it than have the whole club after you?”

“Let’s go forget douchebag Trevor!” I yelled.

“Let’s go!” She yelled back just as enthusiastically.
