Chapter 1

As the iron gate was opening, there was a woman wearing a prison uniform with a yellowing folder in her hands.

Behind her was the cold and indifferent voice of the prison guard, "Behave well after you step out from here."

"Behave well?"

She smiled indifferently and the memory of the owner of this body, Rachel Simpson, gradually emerged in her mind.

Rachel was born into a noble family in Vreyland but her father gambled their family legacy away. When she was 16 years old, her mother died of illness. Less than three years later, her father was remarried and brought back a stepdaughter who was younger than Rachel. Since then, her status in the Simpson family had plummeted.

Not only she was bullied by her stepmother at home, but her stepsister also took away her boyfriend that Rachel was deeply in love with.

She endured it all until she reached the age of 22. In order to consolidate the Simpson Family's status in Vreyland City, her father did not think twice to marry her to the eldest disabled son of the Evans family, a decent military family—Ethan Evans.

Who was Ethan? He was the highest-ranked commander of the military region in Vreyland, the capital of the empire. He was also the founder of the strongest special forces regiment, the Champions Special Forces. He was also the youngest major general in the military, whose name was known to all.

It sounded like she got a better end of the deal from this marriage, but there was no such thing as a free lunch in this world.

The reality was, Ethan had suffered from paraplegia due to an accident during a military practice to which he might not be able to take care of himself for the rest of his life.

She, on the other hand, had a lowly status in her husband's family and was ill-treated.

She ended up being charged for the offense of manslaughter, prosecuted in court, and sentenced to three years of imprisonment.

It had been three years since that had happened but it seemed like only yesterday. Those memories were still vivid in her mind.

Sitting in the taxi while watching the scenery outside the window, she held the hem of her clothes tightly with her slender fingers on her knees.

Rachel seemed to be constantly bullied by others in her life and compromised herself. Therefore, in her most desperate moment in prison, she chose to leave the world and let her soul be reborn.

She now possessed memories that belonged to Rachel, which were all unbearable to recall.

After driving for more than half an hour, the taxi finally drove slowly into an inconspicuous three-story building on the mountainside.

She took out the last piece of cash from her pocket and thanked the taxi driver. She then walked towards the entrance of the villa.

She rang the doorbell.

"Miss Simpson?" the servant who opened the door was stunned to see her. She quickly changed the way she addressed her. "Oh no, Mrs. Evan?! It's Mrs. Evan! She's back!"

Rachel had left for three years. For the past three years, nobody had asked about her.

Even though the Evans family was extremely powerful, they did nothing to help her. It was as if they were hoping that she would die in prison. This showed how dissatisfied the Evans family was with their daughter-in-law.

Hence, the servant was pretty shocked to see her

Nonetheless, she still took a pair of slippers out from the entryway and put them beside her feet.

"Wait!" Before she could put them on, a graceful woman came down from the stairs in her purplish red cheongsam which looked gorgeous on her. She had an oval-shaped emerald ring on her finger and her make-up was looking demure.

She glanced at her from a distance and her expression turned sombre, "Are you trying to jinx us by entering into our house wearing whammy clothes like that? Emily, hurry up, take her to the shed next door to take a shower and put on clean clothes. Don't bring any bacteria in! Ethan's condition is getting better, don't let her ruin it!"

In seconds, there was already someone who walked up to her and gestured at her, and said, "Mrs. Evan, this way please."

They wanted her out.

The shed next door was actually a place for the servants to take a shower. It was dirty and messy.  Rachel was treated as if she was a servant.

Curling her lips, she sneered. She could not be bothered much by it. Putting the slippers down, she said, "Sure thing, mom."

After that, she turned around and left with the servant.

The lady was stunned for a moment and she found it hard to believe what had just happened. Especially when she called her "mom", it was grating on her ears.

Rachel had always addressed her as "aunt". This was the first time that she had actually called her mom.

She felt there were something different about Rachel. She seemed different from the person she was three years ago.

But what was the difference?  She couldn't tell. After all, Rachel looked the same as before.
