Chapter 1

Princess Pyrkaïá's POV

I hear their shouts. I hear their feet running fast towards me. I hear the wind making me see the trees dancing.

“Princess Pyrkaïá, come back!” I am worried, for I am sure that they will have a punishment right after they come back to the kingdom without me, but I don’t have a choice. I cannot just come back now. She will think that I chase her. She would be more cautious if it happened.

“Do not think that you’ll have me just by chasing me! Can you go back to the castle?! Just this once! Stop!” I can feel my eyes turns red as I shout my lungs all out. If only I am allowed to use my wings here. Praxousia residents are forbidden to use their wings at night unless it is necessary. They will not consider a Princess running away without their permission. I wonder what they will receive if they have me.

“You are not allowed to wander when the sky turned pitch-black, Princess! Please come back!” The disadvantage of being born from a royal family. They are too protective.

If it is not because of what happened in the past, I’ll never be like this. Why was I born special in the first place anyway? Not that it is their fault, but they are too numb to feel what is wrong. I don’t have a problem with them. But these servants and knights that are chasing me are Eftychia’s. I don’t have trust in them.

Third Person’s POV

The whole kingdom was preparing for the first Princess of Praxousia, birthed by the 8th Queen. The servants were walking back and forth. The rulers are in their room.

“We truly have a beautiful kid, Chrysostomos.” Teary-eyed, Queen Serafina looked at His Majesty.

“Of course, her mother is enchanting. Your beauty runs in her blood,” said the King happily. The King has excellent leadership that is being admired by many. His wings are the color of thunder same as his powers. His attack on the battlefield can make a configuration, having the high possibility for them to win.

“We still have to wait an hour to see her wings. I wonder what it would be like,” the King added.

“I want her to cherish her young days. I’m afraid the big responsibility she will have when she grows up is too big for her to handle,” Queen Serafina said while returning Pyrkaïá to bed.

“The Royal Synomosía will gather 30 minutes from now when Pyrkaïá is expected to show her wings,” The King replied.

“Why are you always talking about her wings?” the Queen asked confusedly.

"I am just excited, Serafina."

“No, you are not excited. I can see in your eyes how you wanted Pyrkaïá to be too powerful. Chrysostomos, she is just a baby. We can train her when she is at the right age. I am always reminding you to not be hungry for the power, do not be greedy.” The Queen stood up, said those words firmly to the King. “If you cannot be a good father for Pyrkaïá, then I will.” Serafina then left the room, leaving her husband drowned in his thoughts.

The King looked at the door where Serafina used with disappointment. He indeed wanted Pyrkaïá to be powerful to be able to protect herself. Still, he also wanted to be a good father.

“Always remember that I will not replace you as my daughter for my greedy nature. If it happened so, please protect yourself. You will be a good ruler, Pyrkaïá.” His Majesty kissed Pyrkaïá on her forehead before leaving the room. Their daughter’s eyes brightened because of the color of flames her pupils became, then went back to their original color.

The time passed quickly, and everyone was now in the throne hall. This kind of ceremony is being held by the council, which is the Royal Synomosía.

The rulers kneeled while the head of the council sat, holding the baby. Soon enough, they see the Princess smiling, but not her wings. Everyone was shocked. If it is not today, I am sure it will be seen tomorrow. If that happened, she is the second strongest fairy that was ever born.

“Your Majesties, her wings failed to be seen today, which is the 7th day when she was born. If her wings spread tomorrow and they are glowing—considering it is the 8th day, she will be the second strongest fairy.”

Princess Pyrkaïá's POV

My feet are already feeling pain because of running. Am I really that precious to chase even on this cold night? I don’t want to disobey the law. It will create chaos if I spread my wings. They are too bright, and effusing blazing energy in the forest is dangerous.

“Princess, please come back!”

They’re already near me. How did they run so fast?! Because of the rush, I quickly turn left where the darkness is all can be seen. They did not bring their torch with them, for they thought I’d stop running when I can see no light already. They did not even get a fairy with light powers. Do they think I am that dumb e? In this world, especially for me, I cannot remain untaught. As soon as I stepped a foot forward and spoke a word, the knowledge should rain upon me. There are lots of eyes that are flickering in the dark, glaring at the happiness being radiate.

I caught my breath as I stopped running. I cannot hear their footsteps nor their voices. They must’ve been in a different direction, for the way I go is too dark, and they cannot see me. I use the fire from my hands to light the surroundings. I see a piece of wood and put the light in it. How will I spend my night anyway? I cannot sleep in this forest, and it is too dangerous. I look at my surroundings, hoping to see something useful for the night but failed. Holding the torch, I made, I proceed to walk straight, it’s midnight, and I think the sun will rise in a few hours; if it did, I’m sure many knights will look for me, so I need to walk somewhere far from the palace.

I don’t see fairies in this forest. Of course, it is midnight. A fairy that will be caught walking around a forest will be accused of doing an evil deed. I can only hear my breath. The trees are rustling, and the wind is their only companion. The moonlight is now giving the forest a little light, at least.

“The fire blazing in the night sky, the light it is giving heat in the cold breeze..” I sang as I walk. It’s the song my mother always singing to me when I was 3 years old.

I’m hungry. I didn’t think that I needed food; I should’ve brought some with me before running away. If they knew this, maybe the headline in newspapers is “Princess Pyrkaïá, the Failure Fairy in Running Away” hahaha. I once again looked at my surroundings, only for me to see the tall trees. Fate is being cruel to me again. I can never mind the hunger, I can live at least 5 days eating nothing, but hunger is something! I continued to walk in these never-ending tall trees and dark sights until I see a piece of cloth enough for me to lie down to. I guess I can sleep in here, yeah? But what if someone harms me here? Or throw rocks at me?! Or maybe use their power to kill me? Oh please.

Out of concern for myself, I create a fire barrier, and it’s too cold in here, so the fire will not adjust my temperature a bit...or not? It’s becoming hot. Ah! Never mind the harm waiting for me. I do not intend to roast myself while sleeping.

The cold night with the moonlight will make me comfortable, at least. I’ll inform them about what happened.
