"LX is a global company. I don't think it's a loss if they acquire our company."
"Yeah, it's not." Another chimed in. "We're just worried that they won't keep us and waylay all the staff."
Someone exclaimed immediately, "Ah… That would be bad."
In MN Building, the atmosphere in the company was tense and an unreadable pressure hung over the surroundings. It was as quiet as a graveyard. This was because, in half an hour, LX multinational company would be acquiring the company.
LX was owned by the Stone family and the head was Elliot Stone. They stood at the helms of the business sector and were considered the don in the sector.
The elevator on the top floor stopped with a ding and the doors slid open. Immediately, a man stepped out. He was Elliot Stone, the President of LX.
He was a handsome man with a tall and upright figure. He was putting on a suit jacket with a white center pleated shirt underneath. His attire was simple and cooperative but they were all custom-made limited edition clothes. However, his originally handsome face, which should have been expressionless, rushed angrily out of the elevator toward the door. He seems to be looking for something. The limited edition suit on his body showed some wrinkles from walking quickly.
"Could it be that the negotiations have failed?" other uninformed subordinates are speculating, “LX won't give up on us, will it?”
Amidst the chatter, Elliot sought in vain and stopped down. The secretary rushed over with a crying baby in her arms. She still couldn’t coax the little baby and had to hand it over to his father.
Elliot picked up the baby and the baby stopped crying instantly. Yet they had only seen each other for five minutes as father and son.
Just five minutes earlier, Elliot had been discussing the acquisition with his secretary.
Suddenly, the sudden cry of a baby startled the two. Both of them looked at each other. The cry was coming from a package that was placed in a corner of the room.
The secretary walked forward and immediately went closer. He unwrapped the package, and as soon as she opened it, both of them were shocked. Even Elliot had a rare expression of surprise on his face.
There was a baby inside the box. He was waving wildly on all fours while crying and screaming. Although the secretary was taken aback, she quickly carried the baby up in his arms.
The secretary was at a loss. She looked at Elliot. "President, this..."
Almost immediately, Elliot reached out to carry the baby. The secretary's hands were empty.
The moment Elliot carried the boy, he leaned into his wide arms. Elliot lowered his head to look at the baby boy in his arms. Immediately, the baby stopped crying.
His ink-black eyes stared at him. Those eyes were dazzling and Elliot was taken aback by how beautiful they were. As he stared at the baby, his heart seemed to be touched by something. It was a foreign feeling he didn't understand. He felt attached to the baby.
It was then he noticed the paper sticking out of the baby's hand. He furrowed his brows for a moment before pulling out.
He flipped the paper open curiously. It was a short letter. The handwriting was small and a little familiar. He knitted his brows before reading it.
The letter read,
- Elliot, the baby is left to you. Take care of him. There is no need to mention my presence.
Elliot's expression fell. He turned the paper and on the back, he could see the sender's name. It was Avery.
Elliot's face was instantly covered with a layer of ice at the realization. He clutched the card in his hand tightly and his hand was trembling even though he didn't notice it. He looked around the surroundings but it was empty. Only the assistant was around with him.
He clenched his fists and settled back into a chair looking grim. The image of the woman who tricked him into going home with her a year ago and forcibly having sex with him came to his mind. He felt extremely annoyed.
He suddenly thought of something and narrowed his gaze. He glanced at his assistant and asked, "What about the person who delivered the things?" Elliot gritted his teeth sharply. It was not hard to guess he was in an awful mood.
The assistant was very smart and efficient. Immediately, she replied, "Downstairs. With our partner who just arrived."
Elliot immediately handed the baby to the secretary and hurried downstairs. However, by the time he got downstairs, there were no traces of that person anymore.
In reality, Avery was still in that vicinity as she rushed off amongst the crowd of people. But, he could not see her.
Elliot's expression was complicated. He gritted his teeth in anger as he thought. A year back, that woman tried every means to marry into the Stone family as their daughter-in-law for fame and money. She drugged him and had her way with him. Then, she took a sum of money and ran away.
He didn't expect to meet her again a year later. But she didn't come alone. She came to dump a child in his arms. Even though this child is so cute and sweet.
Elliot got even more incensed at the thought of it. She risked being caught by him. And, what made him even angrier was the way she escaped under his nose.
Suddenly, the child in his arms began to cry frantically again. Elliot restrained the awful expression on his face instinctively and looked at the baby wrapped in a bundle of cloth in his arms.
His gaze was complex. Just like the turmoil in his heart.
Outside the building, Avery was putting on a staff uniform. She pretended to be an employee of this company and blended into the crowd. After some time, she walked out of the crowd and looked at the top floor of the building. Her heart constricted and she couldn't help but purse her lips tightly.
'I'm sorry, Daniel…' She thought.
She really couldn't do anything about it. She loved Elliot Stone a lot. But, he couldn't see how much she loved him. He hated her guts.
A year back, she tricked him into sleeping with her. But, she was eventually scared off by her actions and didn't dare to appear in front of him. Then, she naturally became pregnant. She gave birth to triplets.
Two months back, the babies were born. The twins were healthy. But the youngest boy was diagnosed with congenital leukemia. Moreover, he had RH-negative blood. It was a rare blood type. And, the only person she knew who had that blood type was Elliot Stone.
Avery was ridden with problems. The huge expenses were one. However, even if she gathered money for his hospitality and surgery, it was hard to find the right marrow to match.
Only Elliot could meet these two conditions at the same time.
He hated her. But, Daniel was his flesh and blood. Even a tiger would not eat its cub.
Thus, Avery took a gamble. She delivered the child to him.
Knowing that the child had reached the hands of Elliot safely, Avery breathed a sigh of relief. She was feeling awful however she endured the sourness and sorrow in his heart as she turned around and left in tears.
Probably, she would never see her son again. But, she hoped he would live well…
