Chapter 1

"let's go for gold this year" The two boys fist bump each other.

Kyle woke from his dream in a cold sweat. It was always like that every night ever since his best friend Chris died he kept seeing him in his dreams.

He got out of bed and got dressed in sweats and sneakers. It was 4 am, time to start training. He ran three miles every morning out of fear his mother had told him to stop running. She feared what happened to Kyle would happen to him too. But he couldn't stop now right now running was the only thing that felt right it was the only things that put the nightmares to rest. He kept pumping his legs to run the familiar burn in his muscles felt relaxing to him he didn't focus on anything but pacing his breath and going down the familiar path.

He came back home around six, his mother was already up and getting ready for work. " Good morning" he said "mhm" she replied. She had stopped talking to him when he told her he wouldn't quit Track and Field. He went into the kitchen to see that she had prepared breakfast for him he quickly drank his chocolate tea and ate his sandwiches. While his mother was cold towards him she at least didn't starve him.

Flashback

Lunch time at school he and Chris were on the field training "Kyle I don't like that teacher"

He looked behind him the only teacher he saw was the Social Studies teacher Mr. Simmonds "Mr. Simmonds?" Kyle asked

"yeah he likes sticking his nose where it doesn't belong?" his face looked disgusted "Teachers like that think we're trash just because of where we're from" Chris said. Kyle laughed He knew exactly what Chris was talking about. Teachers didn't normally stick around especially out here on the track. He knew the teacher was watching them. He and Chris didn't have the best reps at school event though hey were the best athletes.

"Ignore him he's not worth it plus he can't get rid of us" Kyle said. It was true while most of the snobby rich brats at the school hated them, they were also envious of them. Kyle and Chris were scouted and given scholarships to attend the Arthur T Wint High school. It was a school for rich kids it boasted the best resources, their parents gladly accepted thinking it was a great opportunity for their sons.

From the moment the boys stepped into the school it had been hell. The teachers looked down on them and the guys were assholes. Kyle regretted asking Chris to come with him because Chris had given up attending his dream school to follow his best friend. They had a singular goal to get out of this school they were biding their time until the ISSA champs came up. It was the biggest athletic competition of the country athletes from all over the region would be competing. Fortunately Chris and Kyle had started making a name for themselves the 2 years they had been here. Then they would be scouted for the national team and finally leave this god awful school.

"You make it sound so easy" Chris said. It really irritated him how this school was treating them.

"Your girlfriend is coming" Kyle said while indicating his head to the outer field Chris's girlfriend Leah was walking over to them she was extremely beautiful with kinky hair brown eyes and the smoothest skin he had ever seen not a single blemish marred her skin plus the school uniform did nothing to hide her curvy figure. "She's not my girlfriend" Chris mumbled, Kyle shook his head at that Chris was a player so Kyle made no comment on that it wasn't his business.

"Hey babe" Leah said while handing Chris his lunch "Hi Kyle" she flashed him a shy smile, "I can't stay with you guys today I have Prez activities but um Chris" she tossed Kyle a nervous look " will you be staying at my place again tonight?" he nodded his head "ok" she said and waved bye to them.

"Your mom doesn't mind you sleeping out?" Kyle asked "nope" Chris replied while biting into his food "she's the one that kicked me out so I don't think she cares where I end up"

Kyle gave a low whistle "your mom doesn't play" He knew Chris and his mother didn't get along ever since his dad had left but he didn't know it was that bad. Chris didn't reply to that just kept eating his lunch. "Well either way , you're good since your girlfriend's parents are overseas and her sister is cool" Kyle said.

End of flashback

That had been the first sign that something was wrong maybe if he had delved deeper he could have prevented the tragedy that was to come.
