Chapter 1

OLIVIA’S POV

The Blackwood Pack was an empire built on strength, loyalty, and ancient laws. Its name carried weight, its influence stretching beyond borders. As Luna of the pack, I was supposed to stand at its heart, revered and respected. But for me, the title had always been an illusion.

Years ago, Valentine's Day lost all meaning for me. My husband never cared for it the way I'd hoped. Rather than being treated as a Luna, I might as well have been just another servant in the Alpha's mansion.

Now, I was driving down empty roads to pick up groceries my mother-in-law had ordered—yet another errand. No matter how many years passed, no matter how much I gave, she refused to see me as Dominic's true Luna. His wife. His equal.

Over time, I learned silence was my best survival tactic. It always worked. Speak little, solve their problems, and the day would pass peacefully.

I took a deep breath and pressed the accelerator—

Then a massive truck swerved into my lane from the left.

The impact was sudden, a violent force that sent my body lurching forward. Pain exploded through me, and then—darkness.

When I woke up, I was in a hospital room, the bright lights stinging my eyes. I groaned, shifting slightly, only to be met with a familiar voice.

“You’re awake.”

I turned my head and saw James—my stepbrother, the pack’s chief doctor—standing by my bedside, his expression unreadable. Relief flickered in his eyes, but something else lingered there, something uncertain.

“H-how-“ he interrupted me.

“You’re lucky, Olivia. No broken bones, just some bruising,” he said before pausing, as if debating whether to continue.

“What is it?” My voice came out hoarse, my throat dry.

His gaze softened. “You’re pregnant.”

I blinked, certain I had misheard him. “What?”

“You’re pregnant, Olivia.”

For a moment, the words didn’t make sense. Pregnancy had always been an impossibility for me. I had come to terms with it—or so I thought. The pack’s cruel whispers, the taunts about my empty womb, the weight of disappointment I carried every single day—

But I stand here now, unbroken by tragedy—and everything is different.

A new life grows within me.

Could this be the Moon Goddess' blessing for my resilience? A chance to mend the fractures between Dominic and me?

Tears well uncontrollably in my eyes.

James, who understands my pain better than anyone, pulls me into a comforting embrace. Yet his professionalism reminds him to caution me—too much emotion isn’t good for the pup’s development.

I nod, swallowing back my tears.

Right now, I need to see Dominic—my husband, my Alpha.

But reality came crashing back the moment I stepped out of the hospital room.

The hallway was crowded, and the moment they saw me, the whispers started.

“She doesn’t deserve to be Luna.”

“She stole the title.”

“She tricked the prophecy.”

“She is not even worthy of breathing near the pack house let alone living in it.”

I clenched my fists, willing myself to keep walking. My fingers brushed against the phoenix mark on my neck, years ago, Elder Alyosha had foretold that the true Luna of Blackwood would be marked by the Phoenix—a divine symbol of prosperity and strength. At that time, Dominic and Evelyn were the perfect couple, adored by the pack and destined to rule together. Their bond was unshakable, their love undeniable.

But fate had other plans.

The night the Phoenix mark appeared on my neck, everything changed. I am an omega, but I carry the phoenix mark. No one believes this fact, but the most trusted elders of the wolf pack are on my side. The prophecy could not be ignored. The pack believed in destiny, and destiny had chosen me, not Evelyn. In the eyes of the Blackwood Pack, I had stolen everything—Dominic’s future, Evelyn’s place, and the life they were meant to have together. Though I had been named Luna, I was never truly accepted. To them, I was an imposter, a thief who had forced Dominic into a bond he never wanted, but elder Alyosha believed that I was the one who would bring prosperity to the pack.

I had been ecstatic. Back then, I had admired Dominic from afar, dreamt of the day I would stand beside him. I thought it was destiny that he was my happy ever after. But the pack had never accepted it because Dominic had never accepted it.

He only had eyes for Evelyn.

And if it weren’t for the prophecy, I would have never been his Luna.

I bit my lip, blinking back the sting of tears. It didn’t matter anymore. I had something now—a child, a piece of Dominic that was mine. That had to mean something.

I reached for my phone and dialed Dominic’s number.

Once.

Twice.

Again.

Voicemail.

My chest tightened. He never answered my calls unless it was something urgent regarding the pack. But today, of all days, I needed him. I just wanted to hear his voice, to tell him about the baby, to feel like I mattered for once. And maybe for the validation that I believed I deserved.

The sound of hurried footsteps shattered the silence as doctors rushed toward the entrance. I tried to look up, but a powerful force knocked me to the ground.

"Ah!" I screamed as I fell.

I looked up at the person who had collided with me—my husband, the alpha of the pack—Dominic.

His chiseled face was twisted with fury, every fiber of his muscular frame radiating disgust toward me. His hateful gaze pierced through me like a sharp arrow, cutting deeper than ever before. The intensity of his loathing was overwhelming, more palpable than it had ever been. Why? Why now, after I had just discovered I was pregnant?

But when my eyes shifted to the woman cradled in his arms, everything became painfully clear.

My throat tightened as if a boulder had lodged itself there, suffocating me. I couldn’t breathe.

Evelyn—the Luna Dominic had always wanted.

The world around me tilted.

But I thought-

She had vanished five years ago. I had forced myself to believe she was gone for good, that perhaps fate had finally given me a chance. But now she was back.

And she was in my husband’s arms.

My stomach churned, nausea rising in my throat but I had to hold it back as I watched him hold her like she was the most precious thing in the world. Like he would die if anything happened to her.

I had never seen that look on his face. Not for me.

I couldn’t breathe.

"Get out of the way!" Dominic roared at me, then rushed toward the emergency room without a second glance. It was as if I were nothing more than trash beneath his feet.

The jeers and mocking laughter around me surged like a tidal wave, threatening to drown me.

My heart ached as if pierced by a thousand blades, but I refused to let a single tear fall. For the first time, a stubborn defiance took root deep inside me. I was no longer just the pitiable Omega they mocked—I was about to become a mother. And for my child, I would be strong.

A vibration from my phone snapped me back to reality. My mother-in-law’s name flashed on the screen. After a brief hesitation, I answered.

"Where are you?" Her voice was sharp, laced with irritation. "Did you get the groceries?"

I took a steadying breath. "There was an accident. I can't return right now."

She scoffed. "Pathetic. You can’t even handle a simple errand."

The line went dead with a harsh click.

Slowly, my fingers tightened around the phone. The pain in my chest flared hotter—but this time, I didn’t apologize. I didn’t explain.

Instead, I clung to that newfound strength rising within me.

I would need it—to protect my child.
