It is a hot humid day at the Disco Resort.
Everyone is putting sunblock before going out of their cottages. Diane is wearing her favorite green-colored swimsuit and a straw hat on her head. Her mom didn’t want her to dressed like that but she was really really are a big headed when it comes to her outfit. Jacob, her twelve years old brother, is now water skiing with his best friend, Liam, on the wide ocean.
Diane sit on the sand near the seashore when her classmate Philip came. Philip is a high school guy with a handsome face. He sit beside Diane and have some peep talk.
Philip move a little bit closer to Diane. ‘Um, Diane.’
Diane look at Philip’s eyes, that made Philip shy. ‘Yes.’ she said softly like the calmest wave that you can ever imagine.
Philip blush even more. ‘Uh, I just want to tell you something.’
‘About what?’
‘Would you mind if I invite you for a dinner?’
But before Diane could answer her older brother, Matthew, sat between them and saying, ‘What’s up?’
Diane fell silent. She was so shy to answer Philip’s question if her meddling brother is around. So she thought of changing the subject. ‘So why you’re here and not with dad?’
Matthew smiled. He knew that Diane always change the subject if he’s around. ‘Um, dad wants me to guard you and don’t let any boys put a hand over my baby sister.’
‘I’m not a baby.’ Diane protested.
Philip realize that he should not be involve in this siblings matter. So he decided to go to her mom, who’s roasting some barbecue.
While Philip is away, Diane amd Matthew started to have some fight but luckily, her brother’s girlfriend came. Matthew leave her sister alone on the sand while he go for a swim with his girlfriend.
Diane feel bad for not answering Philip’s question. But it melted away when she heard a soft music from a flute. She remembered her ex boyfriend, Walter. Walter is great at playing flute. Diane fall in love desperately with him but unfortunately, Diane chosen the wrong guy. Walter broke her heart and leaving her alone without any reason.
The wind blown her straw hat and Diane chased it. It fell at the front of an anonymous boy and the boy picked it up. The boy have a blonde hair and brown eyes, he is also a tall guy. He wears white shirt and a blue pants with a green waves design on the tip of her pants.
He gave it to Diane while saying, ‘Hi.’ with a big smile.
The Diane stared at him. ‘Hello, thanks for my hat.’ she turned and walked away awkwardly.
The boy is a kind of cute and makes Diane’s heart flutter. She didn’t know him yet but she felt like she already knows him. She think she’s ambitious, how will she know a guy that she never met before except today?
She go to her mother, who’s been talking to her cousin, George. George is the son of the owner of the Disco Resort. He is on a vacation during summer while at the New Zealand on the rest of the year. He is studying medicine because he will run their small hospital in the province.
Diane go towards them. And they noticed it. Actually, the only person that wore a swimsuit in that resort is Diane. George wore a light blue shirt and a yellow pants. Diane’s mother, Mrs. Thea Jevon, is wearing a short and a dark green blouse.
‘Darling, where have you been?’ Mrs. Jevon said.
The girl go to her mother’s side. ‘I’m just walking around.’
‘Dear, did you ever notice that you’re the only one who’s wearing swimsuit. So if I were you, I would have been changing by now.’
‘Mom-’
‘No more explanation, dear. Go to our cottage and have some change before your boyfriend came.’
‘Fine,’ Diane enters the cottage and change some spare clothes.
While Diane is changing, George have a courage to ask. ‘Aunty, I never heard that Diane has a boyfriend.’
‘George, you know that Diane is already in college and me and your uncle are not getting young anyone. As Diane’s parents, we decided to allow her to have a boyfriend.’
‘But why me? Dad and mom didn’t want me to have a girlfriend already.’ George didn’t get it for why his parents forbid her to have a girlfriend.
Mrs. Jevon giggled. ‘George, maybe you should ask that to your parents and besides, you’re their only child.’
George smiled. ‘I think you are right, aunty. I should go now and ask my parents about this.’
When George finally leave, Diane came. She wore white blouse over her swimsuit and a blue short. After a while, her boyfriend came.
Her boyfriend smiled at her while carrying a lot of fingerfoods and sodas. Her boyfriend’s name is Kevin. He is a smart and a loving guy. He will be finishing his college course as a lawyer next year. He is so excited about it, that finally he can prove to Diane that he can provides the expenses for their future family.
Diane is so guilty for making Kevin as a fool that she loves him. The truth is she really didn’t love him. She just made Kevin as a rebound for her past relationship with Walter. If Kevin finds out, it will broke his heart and that’s the thing that Diane didn’t want to happen.
Diane helps Kevin to carry the foods and drinks. Kevin is so glad that he saw his beautiful girlfriend. Kevin looked at Diane’s eye that was sparkling green. Kevin loves Diane so much and he can’t leave without her. Diane is his inspiration to continue his life. But in this time, that thing changed but still he didn’t tell her.
Diane looked at Kevin and say, ‘Kev, I just want you to know that after I finish my college course, I will be living at the States.’
That words poke Kevin’s heart, even though Kevin didn’t love her anymore. ‘Oh,’
‘I hope you can understand. It’s only a couple of years until I finish my master degree. And after that, I will come back as soon as possible.’
Kevin know that he can’t do anything but to understand that. He also know that he can’t make Diane’s mind change. So he just manage to say, ‘I understand, Diane. It’s only a couple of years, right?’
Diane nodded. She know that Kevin didn’t want to let her go but it’s for Kevin’s sake. It will help Kevin forget her and ease the pain if ever he finds out that she really didn’t loves him.
‘So can I saw you tonight at the seashore?’
‘Yeah, sure. But for what reason?’
‘Nothing, just want to tell you something.’
