The sky was a light pinkish-purple this sunrise. Kinsi was walking at the edge of the cloud and marveling at the sight. Kinsi is part of the Paraskinia race, humanoid people who have the wings of a bird on the land. These people inhabited the clouds and the sky. They were peaceful people but extremely judgmental of their kind. Kinsi was a very good child but she couldn’t get past her abnormality. Her wings were black just like a raven. That was labeled as a bad omen in her tribe and so, she was an outcast. Not only that but also her eyes are the color of Amethysts which didn’t help her case. Thrown to the side and not wanting to bring her mother and sister down with her she would roam the outskirts of her tribe's territory. Food was a very strange thing for those that roam on the land. We lived up here and ate sky eels and cloudberries never needing to go down below where there was such discord. Little did they know of their own discord between themselves. Kinsi was deprived of her family name “Nephele” She was told her ancestors were the ones who gave life to the skies, soaring high above any altitude any of us can get to now these days. Kinsi wished to fly that high. She loved to fly. She loved to feel the wind as it pushed against the feathers of her wings and wisped through her frosty, white hair. She sat watching the sunrise and the colors turned from purple to pink, then orange. After the sunrise ended Kinsi trudged toward the school bracing herself for the stares and scoffs. As she reached the entrance Kinsi could hear the whispers and rumors spreading about her. She held her head low and proceeded to the back of the classroom. The rest of the students were loud and obnoxious. It was even more of a reason to scoff at Kinsi for being different. In this tribe, if you're different you're looked down on. Her teachers scoffed at her and treated her like trash except one. Kinsi loved that teacher and got excited when she went to her class. Her name was Ms. Parsin. This was Kinsi’s flight class. She had a knack for flying and she could fly faster and higher than all the rest of her classmates. The only problem was that Ms. Parsin pointed Kinsi out too much which gained more hatred from her peers. Today was an obstacle course! These were so much fun because it tested their agility and she improved everytime. Kinsi loved to bob and weave through them. One time a student ended up colliding with her. The student was trying her hardest to keep up with Kinsi. Of course Kinsi was blamed but she didn’t care. She was able to fly again the next day and all was good. Kinsi wasn’t too fond of her classmates and the feeling was mutual. As she went through each class she got terrible remarks spat at her, teachers making her stand instead of sit, and pushed around till she was on the floor. This was an everyday thing for Kinsi, but everyday was worth it for flight class. The end of the day rolled around and it was time for her last class. Flight class. Kinsi was so excited she could barely keep her feet on the ground, but when she got there she was met with a terrible discovery. Reapers had come to the tribe and took Ms.Parsin away from us. Her body was lying on the ground in pieces. It was hard to process so Kinsi stood there in silence as she watched the other students bawling and the janitorial staff clean up the mess. This wasn’t the first time reapers made a mess of our people. They loved to torment my people and slaughter us to fill their unyielding need for blood and worst of all souls. I was terrified I didn’t know what to think. One of my classmates saw me staring and screamed at me “How can you just stand there! You probably would’ve killed her if you could too! You have the same look in your eyes as they do!” I gaped at her and was so confused as to why… I was the only one not shedding tears, I was too shocked to cry, I didn’t know how to. I looked at her then at the janitors now looking at me in disgust and ran as far and as fast as I could. After that day I went to the little shelter I had built out of the surrounding materials. I wanted to just hide and cry, I never wanted to see anyone ever again. It took me about a week to go back to school and everything had gone back to normal except that the other students had destroyed my desk and broke my chair. I had to sit on a stool that the teacher was barely willing to give. I couldn’t even reach my desk. So I stood up and cleaned it. The day went by so quickly I wasn’t ready to go back to that class. Ms.Parsin’s blood was gone and the swollen faces of my peers were now bright and glowing. I quickly realized the teacher was not going to like me. I walked up to my launchpad and stood there waiting for my assignment. “Get off there! You think you have the right to use those awful wings!” The teacher screamed at me. She grabbed me by the hair and yanked me off of the launchpad. I fought back and even tried to get into the air and then she did something that was forbidden. She grabbed my wings and pulled me to the ground. Then 3 more guards showed up. “For a peaceful society, you sure have a lot of weaponry” I spat at the teacher enraged with the fact that she pulled on my wings. “Do it.” I didn’t know what was happen- “AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” I screamed as a sharp pain tore at every muscle in my body. They had cut off my wings. I just sat there in a daze sobbing from the pain. My wings started to freak out and they struggled to chain them down. They took me to a dark place and my wings were separated from my body. I had nothing left. I was so shaken I couldn’t think straight.

“Got her, she is still alive but she is slowly losing consciousness.” Was I fading? I guess I was because I started to feel numb and then everything went black.

When I woke up I was in flames. I couldn’t breathe and all I could process was the iron scent of blood. I saw blades in the shape of… “Reapers” I mumbled under my breath. They must have thought I was already dead. So they set fire to the place. I crawled out of the bodies around me. My wings were gone and somewhere very far away. I was confused and still in a daze. Everything was foggy but then I felt it. The twinge of desperation for blood. I raced to my family to see if they were okay but, they were cowering in front of the 2 reapers I was standing behind. I walked in. “What’s going on?” I asked in a chillingly calm voice. “RUN! KINSI PLEASE RUN FAR FROM HERE!” My mother screamed at me to go but I was so bloodthirsty I couldn’t run. I wanted blood and here was the perfect chance. “No, I’m going to have fun with these two.” I taunted them like they were less than me. “Pfft hahaha! That’s rich coming from such a tiny little thing” they scoffed at me. I tilted my head and asked them “who are you to judge me for my size?” They looked surprised. “Can you understand us?” they asked me. “Yeah? Is there a problem?” I asked, frustrated and confused. My mother looked at me with horror and fear. Her next words shook me to my core “You have the Reaper trait.”
