Nichole wakes up to hear about the terrible accident that happen along the amazon ray express way, 5 people lost their lives including Nichole parents. She cried her eyes out and hugged her brother Joseph who also was crying, the burial arrangements was made and their parents were buried the second day.
Alice James was mr Johnson first wife who didn't have a child for 15 years she was married to him, she later moved back to her family house instructing mr Johnson to move on and get another wife, he was against his wife decision he pleaded and waited for 1year but Alice didn't come back. He was left with no choice than to take a new wife Nichole mother. After the death of Nichole parents no family members shows interest in the children no body wanted to take responsibility of the children because there is no property to be shared and the children will only become burden to them.
They were left alone to find for themselves, mrs Alice had no choice than to move back in and take care of the children, she was caring and she did all her best just to see them happy, together they did some menial jobs to cater for their needs, Nichole and Joseph resume school immediately their steps mum came back home she didn't allow them to fill the gap of their mother and the children also loves her like their biological mum.
Life was getting better for Nichole and Joseph with the help of their step mum although they don't have much they are still managing and happy with the little income that came in from their menial Jobs.
Mrs Alice called them one day and ask if they have any challenges they're facing in school, Nichole remembered her classmate constant bullying and insult about them being an orphan and curse child because they lost there parents in one day, she smiled and said mum we are fine we don't have any issue in school she doesn't wants to make the woman worry about them because she has a lot to deal with already, Mrs Alice smile and told them they should always be of good behavior and they should remember she will always stand by them.
Deep down,Nichole knows the road is still long and how rough or smooth it is she doesn't know, so she thought let me focus on the present and let the future be.
Mrs Alice fell sick one day, Nichole and Joseph did everything they could to make her get well, they didn't have enough cash to take her to the hospital they skipped school to look for other jobs in the street, house hold chores , doing some laundry and running errands just for them to raise money for them to take her to the hospital,the little money they raise from the jobs they did was spent on mrs Alice health,the doctor advised that she stop working so that her illness would not become severe since she was diagnosed with heart related disease so she couldn't follow them to work anymore.
Nichole dropped out of school to look for a job so that she can help Joseph and mr Alice,she did extra work and hawk sometimes. Her friends had been promoted to other class they were even making plans for the universities they wanted to go when they finish high school,some were planning to move to the city,two of her classmates were even planing to gain admission to Time city university one of the best university in the world , as for Nichole she was not bothered because she knows university is a place she don't even dream of going as at then because of their financial status she was hoping if Joseph can finish school, they can both work together and gather saving to take care of mrs Alice and also start a family business,maybe later when they become stable she can go back to school.
One day Nichole's aunty,Bella came back from the city and requested her to follow her back to the city so that she can further her education she promised to send her to school and train her to the university level, mrs Alice agreed because she wants the best for the children deep down she felt reluctant in releasing Nichole moreover she can't be blame since nobody show interest in raising them when there parents died but now that the children are growing up they suddenly found them useful and use the excuse of sending Nichole to school in the city to get to release Nichole as if she has a choice she thought to herself. At first Nichole refuse to follow Bella to the city, our village here is enough for me am okay with the life we are living here nobody will take care of Joseph and mum she said, but Nichole you have to think about it, I have nothing to offer you in this condition please my child follow your mummy sister she is going to take good care of you mrs Alice pleaded with her, Joseph was just crying he was not happy because of the separation that wants to happen between them at last they have no choice than to agreed with Bella.Nichole followed her because of the promise she made that Joseph can come for holidays in the city and Nichole will also come to visit them in the village. The Second day Bella took Nichole to the city, this was the first time for Nichole to be in the city, mummy! Mummy! Bella children shouted welcoming their mum they greeted her,Bella introduce Nichole to her children, Nichole this is Sasha, May and Austin.Nichole was glad to meet her children and they were also happy to see her too because to them their slave has come.
