Chapter 1

Mara had received an anonymous tip over an hour ago about something important in the presidential suite. She had no clue of what, but only that it was something that would interest her.

Being the excellent journalist she was. She jumped at the opportunity for the next breaking news. Her career was her life and baby. Like a mother hen Mara almost always ran to get the next scoop. She was good at her job, too.

Mara was currently working on a piece of a company recruiting inexperienced models. They were offering them training and exposure to be professionals in the industry. Little do they know that they are off to being sex trafficked. Just the thought of such a vile company made Mara furious.

This was her drive because she had vowed to make sure those sick bastards pay for ruining many innocent lives. Young girls and boys had gone missing after signing up to the company. The string of lies ran deep that Mara suspected powerful people were involved because the police could not find enough evidence to convict. The system was rigged and Mara was determined to prove it and hopefully stop the company before more people are taken.

“Excuse me miss,” a housekeeper stopped her cart without lifting her head as she pretended to fix her spray bottles. “You dropped something on the floor.”

Mara looked down and saw the key card on the floor. She smiled and picked it up. The housekeeper was gone before she could thank her. She had access to get into the suite. That’s all that mattered.

Mara quickly pulled out her fake glasses from her bag with the hidden camera. She checked on her cell and smirked. The camera was clear. She was ready to bust this whole criminal organization.

She slid the key card on the door, and it clicked open. Mara wasn’t there to admire how beautiful and eccentric the place was. The hotel was exquisite, and she was going to leave it at that. Lives were at stake and her admiring how European the room was could not matter once she uncovers the truth. The color contrast in the room was stylish and posh, but to Mara, it made the room too bright and blinding. It was not her taste of fancy. She liked simple things.

Mara walked further upon hearing the sound and she blanched. She almost wished the brightness of the room had made her vision blur to the sight in front of her eyes. She can never unsee it.

The king-size bed was huge, but the two people rolled and turned around in every corner. Mara closing her eyes would not erase the naked bodies rolling in bed in the nice Egyptian sheets. Mara was never going to see Egyptian sheets the same again.

If only the nice sheets were the only thing that would make her empty her lunch. It was her soon to be husband who seemed to occupy the bed with another woman that made this whole thing disgusting.

It seemed Wayne Sinclair was also using his hotel for more than business.

Mara shook her head at how gullible she was. Her boss had always warned her about rushing to every story after an anonymous tip. Some information on the internet needed verification. The whistleblower simply wanted Mara to see her fiance in bed with another woman.

They wanted to make Wayne look like the cheating man he was but that wasn’t something new. Mara was definitely not going to cry over it. She wasn’t even going to stop Wayne. Their marriage was arranged by their parents. Wayne was not even Mara’s type.

Mara only agreed to this marriage because she had reached that age of marriage. Society is cruel to singles in their thirties because most were wives and mothers. At twenty-nine, there should be wedding plans involved or else the chance would pass by. So Mara knew exactly why she wanted this marriage. It was all just a marriage on paper and Wayne agreed so he would whore himself around without judgment.

Mara knew exactly what she was signing up for. The scene she saw, though disgusting, was not something that affected her. No hard feelings. They knew each other. They grew up together and were friends of some sort.

All Mara was going to do was walk away. Her plan was to leave as discreetly as possible and let them have their fun. She really needed a stiff drink after what she saw. Live porn was never in her bucket list.

“Who’s there?”

Mara closed her eyes and hoped that she did not hear that.

“Who’s there?” the voice sounded louder before there was a loud screech.

“Mara?” Wayne spoke out of breath.

“Who let you in here and why are you here?” the woman demanded.

“Jesus, Mara. What the hell?” Wayne sighed underneath the woman, making Mara regret looking back.

“Mara?” the naked woman frowned.

“Yes, Mara,” Wayne nodded, “My fiance.”

“Hi,” Mara awkwardly waved with a tight-lipped smile. The whole thing was awkward.

“Why are you here?” the naked woman asked, “You- you came to - to what?” she huffed pulling the sheets up, “You are a journalist aren’t you? What are you here for? To- to expose me. Slander me?”

Mara rolled her eyes. She didn’t care about the woman in bed with Wayne. Mentioning her name was a waste of time. She had done it once today, and it was already enough. So Mara sighed and did the only less intelligent thing that popped into her head.

“Yes,” she nodded, glaring at Wayne before glancing at the naked woman with him, “I was actually meant to be on the other floor,” Mara laughed awkwardly, “My mind is not functioning today. Don’t mind me. Carry on doing whatever it is you were doing. Pretend like I wasn’t here. Please continue. I’m leaving.”

Mara spun around and closed her eyes and kicked herself for blabbering. She blamed Wayne for being in this situation. If he had just learned to keep it in his pants, all of this would have been avoided.

“Don’t move.” Mara was stunned by the audacity of this woman.

“I think I would rather leave,” Mara snarled, looking back. “I would be very happy to wash away what I just saw with vodka in my house. Wayne,” Mara looked at him, “See you at the wedding.” Mara spun on her heel, walking.

“You think I’m going to let you leave? Come on Mara Reed. We both know you are smarter than you look,” Mara was fuming as she spun around only to make the shameless woman laugh, “Where is the camera? Hand it over.”

The woman got out of bed in her naked glory and stood in front of Mara. She clearly was comfortable in her skin to saunter like that. Mara was still too stunned to respond, so the woman repeated.

“Hand the camera over. I will let you leave and make sure you get your husband in time for tomorrow.” She smirked, but it looked like a sneer.

The claws were out. The naked woman looked ready to fight while Mara only wanted to leave. The place reeked of sex and ot was getting unpleasant. She already had a mouthful with the designer, and it drained her. Mara hated confrontations.
