Nadia knew that something was wrong with her fiancé, Husen Sastranegara. In the past six months, Husen's attitude has changed. He became cuter and liked to give gifts to Nadia. But unfortunately, his sweet attitude is not followed by Husen's desire to spend time with Nadia.
"Tonight is Sunday night; you want to go home later? Father has often asked you," Nadia asked one time. She hoped that Husen would come as the boy had often done in the early days of their relationship.
They've been dating for five years, and now that they're not dating, they're getting married in two months. They have printed invitation cards; they even invited the local governor.
Nadia's father is an international standard petrochemical company located in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Husen's father owns a coal mine that controls the Green City area. Husen has been spending a lot of time there lately. He said goodbye to Nadia to return to his hometown, saying that his work was hectic and needed a lot of time to take care of business in the area.
Husen has a branch office close to where Nadia's family lives. Husen has an apartment there. In the apartment, they kissed for the first time, but Nadia would still hand over her virginity to Husen when they got married.
"Yes, of course. I'll be at your house tonight." But in fact, that "later night" never came because the sound of the second chat that came five minutes before Husen's promised time to go never happened.
"Sorry, Nadia, I have urgent work to finish in Green City. Papa asked me to go home. I'll let you know when I get there." This is the last message that Husen sent to Nadia because, after that, Husen's phone line died, and he could no longer be contacted.
The next day, Nadia waited patiently for a call from Husen. She wanted to know how Husen was, if he was safe, if he had arrived home, and when Husen would return to Springfield, the city where they met.
Dozens of times, Nadia called Husen, but his cell phone was off. Horror filled Nadia's heart. She was afraid that an accident would happen to her fiancé, so Nadia immediately turned on the television, watching all kinds of news broadcasts related to airlines. Her heart skipped a beat when the television program featured the "Info Broadcast" program, which lasted only three minutes.
"What's wrong, Nad? How come you don't seem calm?" asked his father, seeing Nadia always moving from in front of the television to the room and back again in front of the television an hour later.
Mr. Dani Harahap's question, Nadia's father, made Nadia gasp. She was really in a state of nervousness and tension—tense waiting for the news of the plane crash that she might have missed. But Nadia hid her fear from her father; she didn't want to make him panic as much as she did. "It's nothing, Dad," Nadia replied, but the look on her face couldn't be fooled.
Pak Dani realized that Nadia was waiting for news, but Pak Dani decided not to ask any more questions. The old man immediately left Nadia alone in front of the television.
The next day, Nadia could not wait, she was distraught if something happened to Husen, so Nadia immediately went to the airport and bought tickets directly there.
"Tickets are sold out," said an officer of one of the airlines serving Nadia.
Nadia shook her head. She couldn't wait any longer than this. "The one for ten o'clock?" Nadia asked again; she hasn't given up yet; she has to get a flight ticket today. She had to meet with Husen. The man turned off all communication devices so that Nadia could not contact him.
Once again, with a guilty face, the woman on duty at the desk with a name tag that reads "Cindy Violet" said carefully, "I'm sorry, Ma'am. The ten o'clock is also over." This is the third airline Nadia visited to look for tickets that morning; unfortunately, Nadia chose the wrong day. All tickets have been sold out. "But you can buy for tomorrow on the first flight at six in the morning. There are still five seats left," the woman informed Nadia.
Nadia's response was beyond the expectations of the airline staff. "No, Ma'am. I have to leave today. I need to know the condition of my fiancé. He hasn't been contacted since last Friday. I'm afraid something bad will happen to him." Nadia paused for a moment, she hesitated to ask the next question, but Nadia still had to ask, "Ma'am, sorry. Was there news yesterday about ... um ... news about ..." Nadia's throat felt tight; she couldn't ask further about the plane crash that might have happened yesterday.
The airline clerk immediately smiled; she could guess what her customer wanted to ask. "Nothing, Ma'am. Everything is fine."
After the airline officer informed Nadia that there was no plane incident the previous day, Nadia was genuinely relieved and thanked the officer in front of her.
Knowing that Husen was fine made Nadia feel very happy, but this was not why Nadia went to the airport. "Are there any passengers who cancel their departure to Sulawesi?"
Nadia was still adamant; she knew that the time interval for asking about tickets that were still available had not yet reached five minutes ago, so no passenger could cancel their departure while the airline staff was still serving Nadia.
Behind Nadia, there were already two other people waiting impatiently.
"Still long, Ma'am?" asked a mother with impeccable make-up and classy, expensive clothes.
Nadia looked in the direction of the voice; she wanted to apologize to the mother who had just asked her. "Sorry, Ma'am, it's going to be a minute. I'm just confirming that there's one ticket that's still unsold."
The mother quickly replied, "Where are you going?"
"Green City, Ma'am." Nadia's voice sounded desperate, and she knew that no one could help her now. Because the line was getting longer and longer, Nadia couldn't be there any longer if she didn't want to be the butt of many people's tantrums.
"I should be the one in line first," repeated the woman.
Nadia did not understand what the mother was talking about, but for the sake of courtesy, Nadia had to smile.
"I mean, if I were the one in line first, you would get my canceled ticket." There was no smile on the mother's face, but her words were like an oasis that quenched Nadia's thirst. She blinked a few times until she realized what the mother had just said.
An hour later, Nadia was already on the plane to Green City. Along the way, Nadia prayed, asking the Creator to make Husen okay.
"Nadia," Husen said when the man opened the door to his family's house.
Nadia was pleased and immediately rushed into her fiancé's arms. She missed Husen very much, but Husen quickly pushed away Nadia's hands and body; the man took a few steps back and said curtly, "What are you doing here?"
The answer came after Husen rejected Nadia. A woman with a big belly came over to Nadia and Husen. Her voice was very soft as she said, "Who is it, honey?"
Nadia's heart shattered. Her eyes were wet seeing the couple in front of her.
