Chapter 1

  PROLOGUE

THE leaves danced in the air, moving with the rhythm of the wind. The smell of daffodils engulfed the air making it heavenly. Butterflies sucked sweet nectar from the flowers, quenching their thirst. The sound of nightingale could be heard, drawing in the attention of many animals - big or small, to watch her sing. The green grass looked lustrous and it sparkled with the tiny droplets of dew.

  The place was truly divine.

But the serene silence of the place came to an abrupt halt when the sounds of laughing children filled the air. Two children, a girl and a boy, ran through the fields of daffodils, the boy chasing the girl.

"Kiara, come here! How dare you paint my teddy blue!" the boy exclaimed as he mustered all his energy to chase the girl.

The girl simply laughed at his acquisition, not at all worried about the punishment that awaited her. Her grey eyes twinkled with mischief as she turned and ran, moving like a snake against the field, so that the boy couldn't catch her.

"You shouldn't have eaten my chocolate, Zain!" the girl, Kiara, retorted.

The boy scoffed, his black eyes glistening with rage for he couldn't get the image of his favorite teddy out of his mind, the blue colour looking nasty on it. He ran faster, catching up to the girl and then, he jumped on her.

Both of them fell down, thankfully protected by the bed of daffodils that surrounded them, the boy on top of the girl. The girl turned fast, facing the boy and tried to push him away. But the boy was heavy, and as he resisted against the girl's push, she had no choice but to give up eventually.

"I am sorry." the girl said finally, hoping that the boy would let her go. But she couldn't be more wrong.

"The sorry doesn't cut it, Kiara. You ruined my teddy." he complained.

"Why do you even like that teddy that much? We are ten now, we need to grow up. I gave up my barbies, you need to give up your teddies." she asked, curious.

The boy thought for a moment, really thinking about the reason why he couldn't simply let go of that piece of toy.

"Because you gifted it to me. And you are my best friend." the boy replied as he grinned at the girl, who was now red with embarrassment.

The boy then let go of the girl, lying next to her on the ground. They stayed there for a while, two young souls, enjoying the bliss of nature. Their breaths became more steady and body finally relaxed.

"I am going to miss you, a lot." the girl says, finally breaking the silence. She rests her face on her palm as she faces the boy, who quickly turns his attention on her.

"I am going to miss you, too." the boy replies.

They simply stare at each other, both breathing in the details of each other before they finally parted ways. Neither of them wanted to move for they only craved for each other's presence.

"I will come back for you." the girl says.

"I will be waiting." the boy says as he sits up and takes the girls hand in his.

"Papa said that we need to go away for sometime only for work. When he will be done, he will come back here. Mommy also said the same. Chinmay bhaiya said that we will be back before we know it."

"I know. Papa said that too. Uncle and him are friends and friends never leave each other. When they meet, we will meet. But I will still miss you."

The girl grabs the boy in a tight hug, tears escaping her eyes. Seeing her cry, the boy starts crying too. They stay like that for what seems minutes, finding comfort in each other.

"Promise me that you will not forget me and that I will always be your best friend." the boy says, his over possessiveness taking control. He would do anything for the girl, for he was his.

  "I promise." the girl replies.

What they didn't know was that life will play it's cruel trick on them.
