Chapter 1

Once I knew you I never wanted to know anyone else~Leo Christopher

It's been two hours since I run away from home all I could do was drive trying hard not to think of the events that just took place. The car was silent, the only thing I could hear was the pounding of my heart beating loudly against my chest.

I left home in a rush the moment I got the text. Salty tears started to fall down my face blurring my vision, I wiped my face harshly then stepped on the gas. If I got out of town fast enough maybe it would give me a head start.

The ringing off my phone filled the air and I grabbed it from my bag, maybe my parents heard me leave. I looked at my phone and saw it was a blocked number. I accepted the call and slowed down the car.

''Janeeeey come back they will hurt you'' the voice taunted me through the phone. My body went rigid and my knuckles went white because of how hard I gripped the steering wheel. I cut the call and threw my phone into the river as I crossed the bridge.

I finally reached the  vandalised sign which said ''You are now leaving  Fallen Wood drive safely.'' I kept driving all night until I started to feel drowsy and started driving off the road. I decided to stop by a diner to get a little shut eye.

The moment I closed my eyes, I saw his face haunting me. I punched the steering wheel and screamed in anguish letting the tears fall down my face.

I screamed when someone knocked on the window but calmed down when I realised it wasn't him. I rolled down the window so I could clearly see who it was.

''I didn't mean to startle you, I'm officer Stephan Holder, I thought something was wrong with your car.'' He looked young maybe in his late twenties, he was light skinned and had brown freckles that dotted his face.

''No my car is fine I just thought I could get a little shut eye, I drove late last night'' my voice was hoarse and when I looked in the mirror my eyes were red and puffy from all the crying. ''Would you like some breakfast?'' I could see the worry etched on his face.

''No I should get going'' I remembered who I was running from and a tear rolled down my cheek, I wiped it quickly before he could see.

''They make the meanest pancakes here and its on me'' He gave me a warm smile, I knew he wouldn't budge plus I was starving. I followed him into the diner feeling the warmth surround my body giving me a sense of safety.

We sat in one of the booths facing each other, I kept my head down unable to meet his gaze. A waitress in her mid fifties came to our table ''Would you dearies like something to eat?'' Officer Holder smiled at her ''I will have the house special and what would you like?''

He looked at me ''I'll have the same'' My voice was still hoarse, I tried to clear it. She smiled then left us in awkward silence. ''I never really got your name'' He finally broke the silence.

''My name is Jane Johnson'' I bit the inside of my cheek and put a lock of curly hair behind my ear.

''Are you coming to or leaving Fallen Wood?'' he tried to make small talk something I was good at.

''I'm leaving'' I kept my head down, my leg was bouncing uncontrollably. I flinched when I heard the diner's doors close.

I relaxed when I saw it was some truck drivers. ''I don't mean to pry but are you running away from someone?''

I started to cry again this time  I couldn't stop the tears, at this point I wasn't ashamed . Just thinking about how my life just changed in one day all because of that two faced bastard I allowed into my life.

I regained my composure and accepted the tissue he gave me. ''You can tell me if someone is hurting you''

I looked over my shoulder scanning the diner for anything suspicious.''I have to keep running its not safe, he will find me'' I whispered.

''I'll protect you'' He said reassuringly rubbing soothing circles on my hand. I wish I could believe it.

''It's a long story''I said finally looking into his green orbs.

''I have the time''The waitress brought our food, she looked at me worriedly. ''Would you like some hot coco sweetheart'' She said in a motherly tone.

''Yes please'' My voice cracked and I took a deep breath when she left I begin my story.

''He was someone I could trust and little did I realise I had just doomed my freedom when I let him into my life.''
