I watched out of the passengers window as the wind of Florida whipped past us at high speed.
It wouldn't work out, I tried covincing myself that my parents idea of relocating to Florida was just a phase that would soon pass and that very soon, we would go back to our small but comfy home in Nigeria.
We had arrived the airport some hours ago and where now in a taxi on our way to 'our new home.'
When the car finally came to a stop, the silence between my parents and I was definitely overwhelming.
"Grab your things. Your furniture and other decorations should arrive in some hour time." My mum said smiling as I nodded non to aware of of the battle raging inside of me. Would I fit in? How was life going to be as a newbie in a strange environment. Would my neighbors love to make friends? All these thoughts raced through my mind as I grabbed my things and went after my mum.
I attempted to scan the environment but I couldn't see pass the white enormous house that stood before me. It was a three story building and extremely wide. A few yards from our house was another one, almost the same size as ours except the house was white with picket fence while ours was a glass house. Yes, you heard right. Our house was a complete see through.
The inside was unexplainable. It had column and marbles around the edges and two staircases, one on the right and the other on the left. This house belong to a fairy tale I could swear because my eyeballs as big as they where was almost popping out of it's sockets.
"I see you like the house." My dad commented.
"Dad! I love it. Oh gawd. Dad you didn't mention it was going to be this beautiful!!" I exclaimed,"where's my room?"
"It's the third floor on the left, fourth door on the right." My dad spoke lifting up his head and I smiled, running up the stairs.
I had expected a very small room, instead, two glass walls laid out in front of me meeting at the corner of my room to reveal a killer view of the ocean. I let my luggages slip out of my hands. The furnitures for my room hadn't been delivered yet but still, it was gorgeous. The bathroom was even more amazing.
The walls where white with marble cabinets to match. There was a chandelier hanging over a bath tub and a huge shower. I loved it all. It was way bigger than our house back home. Way too big. And it was amazing.
I began climbing down the staircase, running out to the beach. I needed a swim.
I ran past a luxurious kitchen and a living room? I didn't even take a second glance at the huge pool before me. I didn't stop as I crossed over the marble pathway leading out to the beach. The bright smile that spread across my face when my toes touched the warm sand was what I couldn't stop as I ran to the crystal water. I undressed to my bra and pants and threw my clothes to the dry sand. I dived nto the water and began swimming to the Sand bar.
I could swim, but for now, floating seemed a more better option. It provided me opportunities to think.
I needed a friend around here.
How would going to school around here feel like? Would I be made fun of? I had read alot from American teen novels, so I knew about the part where the good girl always got in trouble with the queen bee. True, it might be fiction but it seemed real. In those books, if you wanted to stay out of trouble you just had to avoid getting noticed. That was what I was going to do. I would stay annonymous as I could.
I had a type 4c hair. Wavy and full that it fell across my face in curls. I was dark , tall, chocolate brown eyes and full plump lips. I was a beautiful girl.
.Did that matter?
No.
I was in the water for a long time thinking about anything and everything. Finally deciding to go in, I grabbed my clothes when I heard a voice from behind me.
"Alain Greenbolt."
In shock I turned around. Who possessed such a velvety voice?
"Oh!" Right in my front stood a shirtless blonde boy. He had blue eyes and tanned skin. His jetblonde was plasterd on his head. He was tall and spotted a dimple on one cheek. This guy was cute. Forgive my bad description of a strikingly handsome boy.
"Huh?" I asked fazed.
"That's my name." He said," I am Alain Greenbolt. I live at the house with the picket fence."
I scratched my hair feeling nervous. Could this introduction wait till later? "I am Emem. We just relocated down here. Emem yonas. I would love to put on my clothes, do you mind turning around?"
"Sure." He replied taking time to drawl the last two letters. "But I would prefer you like this anytime, any day."
I amost fainted. Literally speaking, I peed in my pants. "Turn around please." Trying to look unaffected at the way his eyes raked my body. He had no shame. When he did turn around, faster than the flash, I pulled on my shorts and almost tripped but held myself. Good lawd! "Is that how you welcome visitors here? You can look now."
"Oh!" He smirked,"you're new here?"
"No, I am new there." I snapped, "you didn't hear the part I said we just relocated?"
"Forgive me." He said laughing nevoursly, "my mind was preoccupied with other things."
"I am." I replied curtly, desperately wanting to get out of here. "So, see you later."
"Wait." He stopped me, "what do you mean by I am. You are what?"
Was he for real? "I meant to say I am new here. And can you please stop looking at me that way?"
"What way?" He asked innocently, "you're looking at me too."
"I wasn't."
"Then how did you know I was looking at you if you weren't looking at me? You a spirit or something?"
"You're so dumb." I eyed him up and down.
"You too."
"Talking with you is a waste of time obviously." I said and he just grinned.
I didn't wait to get a reply as I began walking in the direction of the house and into the hallway. I walked straight into my room realizing that everything had been unpacked. My furniture was spread across the room forming a tshape. I clearly had spent a long time in the water.
After being phased by the pink and gold decorated room, I went straight towards my closet and rummaged through the pairs of pyjamas I had. Finding one that I felt comfy in, I plopped down on my bed and bid sleep come all the while thinking of what had transpired on the beach.
Alain was hot.
I had to admit that to myself.
