Chapter 1

Sitting at a corner, head in hand with messy brown hair, red face, and swollen eyes, she buries herself in alcohol while her mind drifted away as she stares into nothingness.

"Hey.... one more bottle please." Janice beckons a tall male waiter at the bar to serve her an additional bottle of beer.

Nothing hurts more than the pain inflicted by those we trusted to never hurt us.

"The plan was simple, all you have to do is to make her sign those papers, not fall in love with her! You went too far!"

The conversation between her best friend and fiancee had rented a free space in her head as it replayed freely, causing more tears to flow endlessly from her red-rimmed eyes.

"If at all I am to be betrayed, it shouldn't have been you, Danika, why!" she silently cried, unable to accept the fact that her childhood friend connived with her supposed fiancee to deceive her.

"Here is your drink ma'am." The waiter arrived with her order, the fifth bottle of beer in a row.

Janice wasn't one to drink to stupor but her frequent hiccups said otherwise. She's drunk.

Without looking up, she sluggishly dismissed the waiter with her hand while she fumbles with the bottle cap.

"Let me help you with that," A tall man in a blue shirt and coffee brown shorts walked up to her table and collected the bottle from her.

"I don't need ...

... anyone's help! Give it back!" She screamed.

"This? No. You've had enough for a night." He replied with a roll of his eyes.

Barely keeping himself upright, he seemed to have had a couple of drinks himself, but not as drunk as Janice.

Dipping his hand into his pants pocket, he dropped enough cash to pay for all her drinks on the wooden table.

"Come with me. You can't remain here alone, not in this state." He urged Janice.

He tried to make her stand but she wouldn't bulge, "I don't want to," she vehemently refused.

When he did a quick survey earlier he had noticed the two men seated at the table near the back door have had their eyes fixed on her all along but they pretended to look away when he caught them staring.

"Ah! Why won't she just come easily," he sighed in frustration after she repeatedly turns down his offer.

Without thinking twice, he grabbed her waist and flung her on his broad shoulder like she weighs nothing.

"Put me down!" she continues to fight him as they exit the bar together.
