Chapter 1

“I’m sorry.”

Those were the last words my uncle said before he sold me.

At first, I didn’t understand what he meant.

Not until I saw the man standing behind him.

Tall. Still. Watching.

The kind of man whose silence was louder than fear.

Alexander Kane.

Even his name felt dangerous in my chest.

“What is this?” I asked, my voice trembling as I looked between them.

My uncle avoided my eyes.

“It’s for your own good,” he muttered.

My stomach twisted.

“For my own—?”

The man stepped forward.

And just like that… the air in the room changed.

Heavy.

Cold.

Terrifying.

“Is she the one?” he asked.

The one?

Like I was something to be chosen… or rejected.

“Yes,” my uncle said quickly. “She’s healthy. Obedient.”

“I’m not—”

“Quiet,” he snapped.

The sharpness in his voice made me flinch.

My chest tightened as I stared at him.

This man… the one who raised me…

couldn’t even look at me anymore.

Something was wrong.

Terribly wrong.

“How much?” the stranger asked.

My heartbeat stopped.

No.

No, I didn’t hear that right.

“You can’t be serious!” I shouted, stepping back. “I’m not for sale!”

Neither of them looked at me.

Like I wasn’t even there.

“Fifty million,” my uncle said.

My knees weakened.

Fifty million?

That was my worth?

That was what my life meant to him?

Slowly… the man’s eyes moved to me.

Dark.

Cold.

Calculating.

Like he was studying something he might own.

Something he might break.

“Too emotional,” he said flatly.

Anger burned through me.

“Then don’t buy me,” I snapped.

Silence filled the room.

Thick. Suffocating.

Then—

His lips curved slightly.

Not a smile.

Something worse.

“Forty million.”

My uncle hesitated.

I could see the conflict in his face.

For a second… just one second…

I thought he might refuse.

That he might remember I was family.

That he might choose me.

But then—

“Deal.”

The word shattered everything.

“No…” My voice broke as tears filled my eyes. “Please… don’t do this…”

But it was already done.

Alexander reached into his coat and pulled out a card.

“Transfer will be completed tonight,” he said calmly.

Like this was normal.

Like this was business.

Like I wasn’t a human being standing right in front of him.

My uncle took the card.

Didn’t hesitate.

Didn’t apologize.

Didn’t even look at me.

And just like that…

I was nothing to him.

“Bring her,” Alexander said.

Panic exploded inside me.

“No! Let me go!” I screamed as the men behind him grabbed my arms.

I struggled. Kicked. Fought.

But they were stronger.

“Please! Uncle, please!” I cried.

He didn’t move.

Didn’t speak.

Didn’t save me.

The rain hit my skin as they dragged me outside.

Cold.

Harsh.

Unforgiving.

Just like the man who now owned me.

I looked back one last time.

Hoping…

Praying…

Begging for something.

Anything.

But the door closed.

And with it—

So did my past.

I didn’t know where I was going.

I didn’t know what he wanted.

But one thing was clear…

My life was no longer mine.

And the devil…

had just bought me.
