Chapter 1

"Clarence, my family wants to marry me off to your uncle. Please come and save me!"

"Your uncle is in a vegetative state, so how can we proceed with the wedding? Please come and stop all of this..."

Myrna Kennedy sat in the dressing room, holding her phone and continuously sending messages to her boyfriend.

But each message received no response.

"What should I do... Do I really have to get married?"

As she watched the people outside carrying the wedding dress inside, Myrna grew pale, her face drained of color, and her heart filled with a poignant sense of bitterness.

Her future husband, Bentley Arnold, was in a vegetative state.

The Arnold family was well-known and influential, but Bentley had recently descended into his current vegetative state due to an accident. Doctors boldly predicted that he wouldn't live for more than six months.

However, Mrs. Arnold couldn't accept her son dying like that. She immediately announced that any family willing to marry their daughter to Bentley would receive a generous dowry.

The Kennedy family promptly agreed to marry their daughter to Bently.

And Myrna was the unfortunate bride-to-be.

Marrying Bentley was not her choice. Before this, she had a boyfriend. And that boyfriend happened to be none other than Bentley's nephew, Clarence Arnold.

However, with only half an hour left until the wedding, Clarence was nowhere to be found.

Unable to wait any longer, Myrna made up an excuse and ran out of the dressing room.

She remembered she could exit through the hall after walking through a long corridor.

Halfway there, she heard a familiar voice of a woman. Upon careful listening, it was her sister, Rowena Kennedy.

"Clarence, this text message is so funny. Can you believe my sister actually expects you to come and rescue her from her misery? It's like she's been watching too many cheesy romantic dramas, don't you think?"

Clarence held her waist and sneered, "This woman is rather delusional! Does she think she can run away from the wealthy and influential Arnold family, just because she doesn't want to get married?"?"

"She got married off because people still thought of her as being worthy of something. If she dares to run today, the guards at the door will break her legs, and she will have to come back and proceed with the wedding," Clarence remarked coldly.

Rowena laughed even more audaciously.

"Ah, I suddenly feel sorry for my sister. She still doesn't know that you've been with me all this time, and she's still waiting for you desperately."

Hearing these words, Myrna nearly collapsed at the door; she struggled to keep her balance.

Her sister and her boyfriend... How could they dare do this?!

If it wasn't for the recent financial crisis in the Kennedy family's company, which led to her father's heart attack and hospitalization, her stepmother, Chrysta Roberts, wouldn't have the power to make decisions!

There was no way she would be treated as an object and sold to the Arnold family!

Although Chrysta said she wished for Myrna to marry into a good family, even a fool could see that marrying a dying, vegetative person wouldn't be a good thing!

It was obvious that they were kicking Myrna out of the Kennedy family!

Myrna was all alone; her boyfriend of two years had cheated on her, and the Kennedy family had sold her off...

When the naked truth unfolded before her eyes, Myrna covered her mouth and stumbled back into the dressing room.

She sat there dazed for a while.

After a moment, she lifted her head and looked at her red and pale face in the mirror. All of a sudden, she smirked coldly.

From this point onwards, she could only rely on herself for her future.

Everything carried on as usual.

The wedding started quickly, and Myrna walked down the long, red carpet of nearly a hundred meters. She held a bouquet of white flowers as she approached the priest.

In a wedding without a groom, she put on the ring alone.

From that day onwards, she was officially Mrs. Arnold. Would there be any person who would bully her?

She only hoped that her vegetative husband would live for another year, so she could settle her score before he passed away.

After the wedding, Myrna was escorted to a villa under Bentley's name.

The villa, named Sierra Sky, was nestled against mountains and was by the water. The place had exceptionally good air quality.

As soon as Myrna entered the house, she was stopped by the nanny, Luisa Holmes, who took her to Bentley's bedroom.

In the spacious bedroom, a tall and imposing man lay quietly on the bed. His features were strong and profound, resembling that of a mixed heritage. Even with his eyes tightly closed, an air of nobility emanated from his entire being.

The man's skin had turned pale from lying for an extended period, devoid of any hint of color.

Myrna had never seen such a handsome man before. She knew that Bentley, before the accident, was the CEO of the top 500 company, Golden Age Group, and he had an extremely high net worth.

Furthermore, Bentley had no scandals to his name.

How could such a perfect and outstanding man end up with her if he wasn't in his current state?

Suddenly, someone entered the bedroom.

When Myrna turned around, she saw Clarence stride in.

"Myrna, I'm sorry. I've been caught up with some matters recently. But as soon as they were resolved, I came to find you immediately."

Clarence spoke with sincerely and a face full of guilt.

In the past, Myrna might have been deceived by his act. But after seeing Clarence's true colors, she had no interest in talking to him.

She raised an eyebrow and coldly retorted, "I'm already married to your uncle. Don't you know how to address me from now on?"

"Myrna, please stop being upset," Clarence patiently tried to coax her, "Me not coming to your rescue was for your own good. Once you step out that door, you'll be nothing. You'll have to give up on your studies."

"Whatever it is, my uncle is already a vegetable and is barely alive. Once he dies, you'll inherit a considerable amount of wealth. You won't have to worry about food and clothing for the rest of your life."

Clarence grew more excited as he spoke, "Uncle Bentley has a significant amount of assets, and they will all be ours!"

Myrna looked at him with disgust and sternly commanded, "Let go of me!"

This completely bewildered Clarence. The Myrna he knew was always obedient. She would feel guilty for raising her voice at him.

What had happened to her?

Just as Clarence was thinking about how to explain things to her, he noticed that the person on the bed had opened their eyes at some point. Those deep, icy eyes were fixed on him...

Instantly, Clarence's heart jumped to his throat.

"Uncle Bentley!"

"You're awake!"

Terrified, Clarence stumbled backward several steps and incoherently said, "Myrna, no, no, no, I mean Aunt Myrna. It's getting late, and I've taken up enough of your time. I shall take my leave!"

"Wishing you both a happy marriage!"

After speaking, he turned and ran as fast as he could.

Myrna Kennedy watched his sprinting steps from a distance, a mix of mockery and surprise in her eyes. She turned her gaze back to Bentley, who had unexpectedly awakened.

Didn't the doctor say he wouldn't live for more than half a year?

Myrna stood there, staring blankly at Bentley and unsure how to face her new husband. What if he misunderstood something between her and Clarence? What should she do then?
