Chapter 1

"Miss Butler, congratulations. You're two months pregnant," the doctor announced, his words echoing in Aurelia's mind. She stared at the test results in disbelief. "Could it be true? Am I really pregnant?"

After confirming the news with the doctor, Aurelia left the hospital with a radiant smile and wasted no time in dialing a familiar number as she stepped outside.

"What's going on?" came her husband's deep voice, laced with an icy tone. Aurelia felt a pang of discomfort, but the thought of her pregnancy filled her heart with joy.

About to share the life-changing news with Maximilian, Aurelia hesitated. Instead, she opted to ask, "Will you be coming home tonight? I have something important to discuss."

"I don't know," he replied curtly before abruptly ending the call.

Aurelia sighed and made her way home. As soon as she slipped into her cozy house slippers, she was met with a piercing voice from the living room. "Aurelia Butler, where have you been all afternoon? The house is a mess, the laundry's untouched, and you had the audacity to ignore my calls? You're becoming quite rebellious!"

Mrs. Mitchell rose from her seat, casting a disdainful glance at Aurelia, and commanded, "Hurry up and prepare dinner for me!"

Lowering her head, Aurelia silently endured Mrs. Mitchell's harsh words. She had grown accustomed to her stepmother's terrible attitude and had learned not to engage. Meekly, she responded, "Of course, Mom."

Even after dinner, Maximilian had yet to return home. Aurelia decided to wait for him in the living room, her disappointment mounting as she caressed her belly.

Leaning against the sofa, Aurelia drifted into a daze and eventually succumbed to sleep. It was late at night when she was stirred awake by the faint sound of a car approaching the driveway.

A man in a sleek black suit entered the room. He was undeniably handsome but exuded an air of coldness and power, reminiscent of a king.

"You're back?" Aurelia stood up, her nerves tingling with a mix of anticipation and unease.

Maximilian approached without a trace of emotion on his face. He placed a document on the table and spoke icily, "Aurelia Butler, I want a divorce."

Aurelia froze, staring at Maximilian in disbelief. "Why? Maximilian, what have I done? You..."

"Hanna has woken up," he interrupted, his expression darkening.

In that moment, everything clicked for Aurelia. Maximilian's first love, Hanna, had awakened from her coma.

Maximilian regarded her with a somber gaze. "She vividly remembers that you were the one who hit her with the car that day. Aurelia Butler, what do you have to say for yourself?"

"It wasn't me... I swear, Maximilian. It wasn't me," Aurelia pleaded, tears streaming down her face. She and Hanna had never seen eye to eye during their college days. Three years ago, while Aurelia was driving, Hanna suddenly darted in front of her car. Aurelia managed to stop just in time, but another vehicle came out of nowhere, striking Hanna before fleeing the scene. Before losing consciousness, Hanna falsely accused Aurelia of causing the accident in front of Maximilian.

With no CCTV footage or dashcam evidence to prove her innocence, Aurelia found herself branded as the guilty party.

"Maximilian, I truly didn't hit her. Please, let me see Hanna," she implored.

Maximilian's disbelief was palpable as he uttered in a disgusted tone, "Are you still trying to deceive me? Sign the divorce papers now. After that, pack your things and leave the villa immediately. I never want to lay eyes on someone as malicious as you ever again."
