“How dare you tell me it doesn’t belong to me?” I cried.
Nah, men don’t cry, this is my own way of motivating myself. My Dad taught me this when I was little and now that I am all grown, he still reminds me.
I got a slap on my cheek, it resounded like a tornado and that was all I could remember.
Woke up in the hospital and it all feels like a dream.
My mom touched my face and says to me “I am so sorry my love would have been there with you” She pleads. Guess who gave me such a resounding slap…my dear sister Catherina. She hated me for no reason and always takes over whatever is mine. But this particular one hits differently, made me unconscious. I got discharged from the hospital and we all headed home.
“I am so damn hungry” I told my mom.
She went straight to the kitchen and starts to prepare dinner, I went upstairs to get some self-nourishing bath and yeah my sister went to her room and locked herself up after being scolded by my mom for what she did to me.
“Dinner is ready” My mom announced.
My sister and I both rushed down to the dining to eat my mom’s usual delicious meal. We were all ready to eat when my Dad came in from work. We were all happy to see him, we all sat and enjoyed our meal together as a beautiful family but you just can’t tell what was gonna happen in few minutes time.
We were all preparing to go to bed when my Dad got a call from one his brothers that his wife was rushed to the hospital because she had fainted in her car which led to a minor accident and he needed my Dad’s help, he was out of the country for his usual business meetings and unending appointments. My uncle and my Dad don’t really get along so well, my mom felt uneasy about him leaving home at that hour but family first; that was his belief.
He left home that night and never came back. That was when all our sorrow and pain started.
That night, we all went to bed and we all slept together in her bedroom. We were having our peaceful sleep when my mom got a call from a strange number, she picked up her phone and answered “Hello, yeah who’s this”
“Is this Mrs Harpar?” The man on phone asked.
She responded with a Yes.
“Your husband has been admitted to Viandris hospital, he was in a fatal accident and a family member is needed before performing any surgery, are you available to come down, ma’am”.
My mom took a pause, her mouth was left hanging in the air with nothing to say, her voice cracked a bit while trying to talk but her mouth couldn’t permit any words out of it. It was like she was frozen, my sister had to collect the phone from her hand and she let whoever the caller is to know that we are going to be there.
My throat went dry and my tongue bittered, their conversations was on speaker so my sister and I both heard what happened. I was in shock and I didn’t know what I was feeling, maybe to cry or to scream but I was in my silence and so was my mom.
My sister was the only one who could control her emotions at that moment. She took the car keys and pulled my mom and I up and said to our faces “Snap out of it, we gotta go”. This was when we came back to reality and we just followed like she was our momma now. We got into the car and zoomed off to the hospital. When we got there, the Doctor asked if we were his family, my mom signed some papers and we waited at the reception for a successful surgery. If it’s money, then we’ve got a lot. My Dad owns a lot of properties and an Empire at that, we expected the Doctor to give him the utmost attention and treatment.
After an hour and half, the Doctor finally came out and told us they’ve been able to stop the bleeding, regulate his breathing and so on that I couldn’t understand. My mom asked if we could go see him and the Doctor approved of it. I saw my Dad and at that moment words couldn’t express how I feel, my mouth was shut seeing my Dad in all those bandages and oxygen. I had a feeling he wasn’t going to make it but I stayed positive, I couldn’t imagine life without my father and the horror of life that was about to befall us all.
Few hours of our stay in the hospital, my mom stepped out to go get us something to eat because we were all feeling hungry. She left and bought us some foods, everyone was done with theirs and I was just about eating mine when my Dad had sudden seizures, my food fell from my hand as we held him while my sister went to get the Doctor. The Doctor rushed I with some Nurses and told us to get out, we all left the room and back to the reception.
But something feels off, I wanted to go ease myself when I saw a man in a black dress and a face cap with nose mask on his face, all covered up. He stared at me and walks off, I didn’t even get to finish in the toilet and left immediately. I couldn’t find him anymore, it was like he disappeared. I ran back to my mom and sister and asked “Did you guys see any man in a black dress with a face cap and nose mask pass by?”
Catherina with her brawling eyes, looks at me in the eye and says “NO”.
“Eww, your eyes always look scary, chop it off” I told her jokingly.
My mom laughed and so did she. Some minutes later, the Doctor came out and breaks the bad news to us “I am so sorry but we lost him”. A sudden rage in my heart and what I feel like is to tear the Doctor apart but I can’t. My mom screamed and cried in so much pain, I could feel it. So, I won’t get to see my Dad’s face anymore, no one to motivate me anymore, no one to calm me and fight for me: these are the thoughts that ran through my mind.
That particular night changed everything both in the Houston’s family and in Aurora Imperium Corporation, my father’s company.
