Chapter 1

As I walked on the congested concrete sidewalk, I could feel someone's eyes on me. I know that this a busy place and thousand of persons were walking on the streets, many of which were going in the same direction or same place that I am going to. But I couldn't help but feel something in my guts telling me that the guy who was ten steps behind me, wearing sunglasses, was following me.

Each time I turned around he would be staring at me then quickly shift his attention when he was caught.

Maybe I was being paranoid, but I just don't think he's a regular New Yorker.

I tried walking a little faster but the only thing that did was to raise my pulse and I didn't want to start panicking for no reason.

It could just be, after all, a regular person walking to the subway station just like me.

But It wasn't a regular person, I could tell by the way he was dressed, the way he walked and the shades on his face. He was someone of high class or status, but I couldn't tell who he was because of the dark sunglasses that were covering his eyes.

Who wears sunglasses at 4:30 pm? That was what caught my attention the first time I turned around.

Stay calm, Kaliyah. Just walk normal, he can't attack you with so many people around.

I couldn't help but look over my shoulder ever so often as I walked down the road. He was taking long strides but not enough to catch me up because every time he got closer I sped up.

Continue walking Kally, He'll leave you alone.

Today is not the day you die.

I had no idea if I should be worried or irritated that a strange man has been following closely behind me since I left the office ten minutes ago. This is exactly how most murders start on TV; a strange man wearing shades follows girl after work.

But this wasn't TV, this is real life. Even if he didn't want to kill me, why the hell was he following me?

I continued walking at the normal pace until I reached a stop light. I involuntarily looked behind me, and I saw him but this time he wasn't looking at me, he was looking at a scene that featured an angry taxi man.

Maybe he wasn't following me after all.

When the light changed to red, I began to cross the street and turned down the road to change my direction. I waited for the right time to turn my head and look if he was following me and he was.

I let out a sigh of frustration. Why the hell is he following me?

Trying not to think about the man that was following me, I diverted my attention buildings and stores that I was passing by. I couldn't help but admire the rich architecture but my mind was somewhere else.

Deciding to look behind me to see if Mr. Sunglasses was still there, I slowly turned my head like I was looking at a passing cab.

And there he was still following me. He was dressed nicely in a suit, but he wasn't wearing a tie and his first two buttons were opened. Even though I couldn't see his eyes I knew he was hella sexy.

Why would someone like him want to follow a girl like me?

I'm just an assistant secretary, nothing big and I wasn't important to anyone.

I needed to know his reasons for following me if he is following me.

Deciding to follow an instinct I turned on my heels and walked straight up to him, stopping in front of him my arms at akimbo.

Under his shades, his brows rose.

"Why are you following me?" I demanded. He was about to open his mouth to say something, but I cut him off by raising my hands and shaking it. "Don't give me crap and start denying it. I know you're following me. What do you want?" I looked at the shades because I couldn't see the eyes that lay behind them. I look up and down at him trying to make out his body posture to see if it was giving any signs away.

I pray to God he was following me because I don't know how I'd handle the embarrassment if he wasn't.

He is very tall, probably 6'4, he needed a shave, but his cheekbones were wonderfully shaped. His lips were small and slightly pink, and his dark hair swept across his forehead messily. He had a mysterious look about him, but I just couldn't pinpoint what it was especially with the shades on.

He finally spoke saying. "People always say looks are everything but I guess looks can be deceiving," I had no idea what he meant but I knew he was trying to insult me.

I continued looking at the mysterious man in front of me.

  Who the hell is he?

And why the hell is he following me? If he is following me.

The questions just started popping up in my head. But I wasn't moving on until I got an answer. I raised my brows at my stalker then said, "Look, I don't know you and I don't want to. So, do me a favor and stop stalking me, before I call the cops." I was bluffing because I don't know if I'd go as far as calling the police but maybe my words will ward him off.

He begins to laugh at what I said leaving me to really question who he was. I guess my words didn't affect him. "Calling the police won't help you in this decision, in fact, the police will be on my side, after all, you're the one who is at fault here."

I looked at him with my brows raised and confused.

Me? At Fault? I can't remember doing anything against the law. "Look, you must have mistaken me for someone else. I've never done anything illegal before." I lied. In my teenage years, I was involved in a lot of illegal things, one of which was getting fake IDs but that wasn't anything too major to get in problems. Everyone gets a fake ID these days, especially teens.

"Oh, you've done something more than illegal," he states.

"What have I done that worse than doing something illegally?" I queried. I don't remember doing anything bad, just a normal teen enjoying life.

"Oh, stop being innocent. You know what you did."

I look at him annoyed. I was getting pretty irate at him each second, I spent there looking up at him. I shake my head and turn around and beginning my journey to the subway station, which was my original goal.
