Chapter 1

In Arkadelphia, just past the New Year's Day, the temperature suddenly plummeted.

At ten o'clock at night, the brooding sky intermittently dropped flakes of snow.

Kayla Saunders stood by the window, waiting for the previous female anchor to finish, so she could take over and record the next segment of the radio broadcast.

"Ding," her cellphone that was tucked away in her pocket sounded.

She subconsciously took her phone out to peek at it. The screen showed an indication that there was a new email in her mailbox.

The sender was Cannon Ewing, and the email was brazenly titled— "Divorce Agreement."

Just like every previous email, she would receive this email on the 1st of every month. There was no text in the body of the email, only an attached 42KB document.

The first time Cannon gave her this divorce agreement was in paper format, which she had promptly ripped up.

Later on, he thought it more convenient not to meet her face to face and simply sent her the agreement as an email attachment. Angered as she might be, she couldn’t take it out on her phone.

Being married for two years now, Kayla had gradually become accustomed to his machinations. Calmly, she muted her phone and placed it back into her pocket.

At that moment, the broadcast hostess of the previous segment had already emerged from the recording studio.

"Kayla, it's your turn," called the assistant from behind towards Kayla. She always wondered why someone like Kayla, a married woman, insisted on scheduling the show after 10 p.m. Wasn't she supposed to go home and spend time with her husband at night?

Kayla responded with a nod. When she turned around, her lips curved into a flawless, standard smile. With her slender legs clad in black pencil pants, she walked straight into the recording studio.

…...

A silver Maybach drove smoothly on the highway of Arkadelphia.

Backseat of the car, a scantily dressed woman had her arms draped around the man's neck. Her golden waves cascaded, with a strand intentionally or unintentionally brushing against the man's ear, teasingly.

"Mr. Ewing, will you take me home today?" the sultry woman pleaded, batting her eyelashes at Cannon. Her hand, slung around his neck, began to creep toward his chest.

Just as the soft, seemingly boneless hand was about to slide under the man's shirt collar, the woman's wrist was suddenly seized.

"Ah… Mr. Ewing, it hurts... I was wrong," Natalee Bernard cried out in surprise, whimpering in pain.

Cannon glanced coldly at the woman beside him, his gaze landing on her freshly painted nails—bright and exaggerated crimson, truly eye-catching. He increased the strength in his grip, saying, "Whether I take you home or not depends on your ability. Judging by what I see, it doesn't seem impressive so far."

"Mr. Ewing... I..." Natalee bit her red lip, her eyes brimming with tears.

With a cold huff, Cannon let go of her without any hesitation.

The car was once again consumed by silence.

At this moment, the driver turned on the radio. "Kayla's Melodies" broadcast was currently on air. Mr. Ewing listened to this program every day at this time, assuming that today would be an exception with Miss Bernard's presence.

"Hello to all our listeners, thank you for tuning in to our program every night at ten. I am today's host, Kayla Saunders."

A clear, pleasing voice filled the air through the radio.

Kayla... This name might be unfamiliar to others, but Natalee recognized it instantly. Wasn't this Cannon's woman — his wife in name?

The silence continued within the confines of the car while Kayla's radio show quietly played in the background.

"Next up is our listener's message session. Anything you'd like to share, feel free to share it with me."

Seeing the opportunity, Natalee picked up her phone and dialed into the radio station where Kayla was.

The call connected, and Natalee pressed the speakerphone button. Kayla's voice echoed in the car, "Hello to our listener, this is the host, Kayla Saunders."

"Miss Saunders, right?" Natalee cautiously glanced at Cannon. His face didn't show any sign of annoyance, so she proceeded, exaggeratingly stating, "I am very upset, my fiancé has been stolen by my own younger sister. She claimed him for herself. Miss Saunders, what should I do?"

Upon hearing this, Kayla's perfect brows furrowed slightly. The caller's words undeniably hit a nerve.

Wasn't her relationship with Cannon somewhat like this? He was originally supposed to be her elder sister Rebecca’s fiancé — but now the woman married to him was her…
