Chapter 1

“Stop.”

Elena Voss said, "Immediately, Warren, her second in command, stopped using his fists to smash his victim's face." The 25-year-old tied down on a chair, half dead, spat out blood. "I don't care how long you torture me; I'm not telling shit!" He laughed mockingly and faced Elena. "I'll forever be loyal, even in the face of death."

Elena scoffed and let out a small smirk, bringing out her knife from the holster on her thigh. She played with it, using her fingers to caress the sharp edge. "I'm sure your girlfriend and baby would love to know how loyal you are. Don't you think?" Her sharp eyes looked at him mockingly.

Han, tied in the chair, choked and spluttered on nothing, eyes wide. He shrieked, trying to escape from the chair he was securely tied to. "Don't you touch them, you hear me?! Don't touch them!" He began crying. "I'll tell you everything, just don't hurt them," he said.

Elena looked at Warren, and they both subtly nodded at each other. Warren pulled Han’s hair backward, so hard the chair tilted. "Who sent you to shoot Elena?"

Han hesitated. "Answer me, you scoundrel!" Warren shouted in his face, spit flying around in anger. "We don't mean any harm. My boss was just trying to see if you're as good as they say." This perked up Elena's interest. "Who's your boss? Why would he want to know how good I am? Her eyes glimmered with mischief. "Unless he wants to give me a job."

The tied-up man looked uncertain as he answered, "I'm supposed to keep our business out of outsiders' ears. If he finds out I told you who he is, I'll be gunned down."

Elena narrowed her eyes at him. "My boss is David Kingsley." Elena shoved her knife into his arm. "Stop! Please!" Han started crying again. "You're shitting me. I don't tolerate liars," she sneered.

Han coughed. "I'm not lying," he shouted. "David Kingsley is my boss."

Elena looked intrigued now. "David Kingsley? The philanthropist? The CEO of Foods and Go?" Han nodded eagerly. "Why would he want to hire me? He's the male version of Mother Teresa," Han shrugged. "He wants you to assassinate Julian Caine," he said.

She looked at Han. "Julian Caine? The ruthless CEO of Caine & Co. Law Firm?" The assassin smirked. "Now, this is interesting," she addressed Warren. "I know what I want to know. Let him go. I'm sure his boss will reach out to me soon enough." "Yes, boss," he replied. He released Han, who shot off his chair as if it were burning and scrammed before they could blink.

Warren looked at Elena, leaning on the office table. He said, "What do you think is going on?" Elena's blue eyes sparkled with mischief. "I don't know, but I want to find out."

Later that night, in her TV room, Elena was binge-watching her favorite series, Grey's Anatomy, with some popcorn. She might be an assassin, but she loves a good time. Her phone rings. She groans, "Can't I just have my time?" She proceeds to ignore the call. It rings again, louder this time. She curses and picks up the call. "What?!" she spits out. A deep voice laughs. "I see you're every bit of the tiger they say you are."

Elena narrowed her eyes, confused. "If you're going to play games, I'm ending the call." She clicks on the red button and ends the call.

Seconds later, her phone starts ringing again. She rolls her eyes, picks up the call, and puts her phone between her ear and shoulder, continuing to watch TV. "Are you ready to speak or not?" she asks.

David Kingsley inhales. "I see you tortured my guard."

Elena rolls her eyes. "That doesn't answer my question. What do you want?"

David was silent on the other end for a while. "I'm sure you know what I want. I want you to assassinate Julian, my nephew."

Elena barked out a laugh. “How much are you paying me?"

"Going straight to the point?" he laughs. "I'm willing to pay $500 if you do a good job."

Elena scoffs. "I don't know who you think you're talking to, but I want $600k. I'm sure you know how good of a job I can do, and I've done my research. He has a ton of bodyguards. It won't be easy."

David tuts. "Fine, we have a deal," he said. "I'll make sure to send you a deposit of $300k. Once you start the operation, you're to occasionally tell me how it's going."

Elena grins. "I can do that," she says. She hears David clap as he says, "Now, I would invite you to my office, but you know how it goes. We have to keep shit private. I'll only be contacting you via this burner phone." "I have no problem with that," Elena replies. The call ended before she could say more.

Elena tuts and throws her phone onto the couch. "Motherfucker," she mutters. She picks up her phone again and texts Warren.

Elena: Warren, we have a new job. Get me everything on Julian Caine.

Warren: Yes, boss.

Almost immediately, she receives a message from Warren titled "Julian Caine." He's 32, single, brutal, ruthless, and loves his mother. The most interesting information for her is that Julian is looking for an assistant.

She grins as an idea bubbles up in her head.

Going back to her movie, she couldn't stop thinking about her next job; it was exciting. It was like a role play; she was sure he had so many bodyguards, it would be fun to kill Julian right under their nose.

She had been an assassin for so long, she knew how to finish a job stealthily. Elena went to bed that night, plotting ways to execute her next job.
