Chapter 1

Laurel Kelly would have never thought that one day, fate would push her to this point.

In order to pay off her father's exorbitant amount of debt, she agreed to act as a surrogate mother for her father's creditor.

Lying on the white operating table, the pungent odor of hospital disinfectants invaded her nostrils. The hot, incandescent light over her head was so bright that she couldn't open her eyes. From the initial terror she felt to the current state of her mind, her heart was as calm as dead water.

The door squeaked. The doctor and nurses pushed the door open and came into the room. She hurriedly hid the tear that was about to fall from the corner of her eye.

"Miss Kelly, we'll begin the operation now. Please spread your legs and place your feet on the footrests. Just relax, there's no need to worry!"

The cold sound of machinery went on ticking beside her. The nurse lifted away the thin quilt.

Laurel was embarrassed, her fingers gradually twisting the sheet under her body. She had never had a boyfriend before, yet she was lying here now, utterly n*ked. To make matter worse, she found out that it was a male doctor who would be performing the surgery.

"Doctor, doctor, I, I..." Laurel thought she had prepared herself well mentally, but as the moment arrived, she realized that the fear in her was much greater than anything she could have ever imagined.

Just as the doctor looked at her in confusion, the door of the ward was pushed open. A middle-aged woman wearing a pair of black-framed glasses rushed inside.

"Things changed! Stop the operation!"

After the woman whispered something in the doctor's ear, the group of people put away their tools and left, not even glancing at Laurel.

"Miss Kelly, please put on your trousers and come out!" The woman gave her a look, barely masking the caustic tone in her voice.

Laurel had no time to think about it. She breathed a sigh of relief, quickly put on her pants, and followed her out.

After they left the hospital, the woman took her directly to a luxurious five-star hotel.

"Take a shower now!" The woman said.

Laurel's heart tightened. "Shower? Why?"

"Stop asking questions. Don't forget, you have signed the contract! You two come here. Take her to the bathroom and make sure she's nice and clean!" The woman looked very impatient. She walked to the side and made a phone call. Immediately, her expressions changed. In a respectful tone, she said, "First Young Lady, I have brought that woman out of the hospital!"

Two hours later, Laurel came out dressed in a sexy, fancy attire, her eyes blindfolded. Then she was shoved into an unbelievably luxurious room.

Lying on the white king-size bed, she felt no different than a helpless fish lying motionless on a cutting board, merely waiting to be slaughtered. Her body stiffened. She dared not move.

In the darkness, Laurel's body, freshly bathed, exuded a faint floral fragrance from her recent essential oil bath. Her beautiful skin was glowing with a lovely pink hue due to nervousness, barely covered by the thin, lacy fabric of her sexy rose-colored dress.

She was like a delicate Chinese violet, blooming in the shadows of the night, waiting to be plucked.

Time went by slowly. Fine beads of perspiration glistened on Laurel's forehead like little brilliants. She thought she saw a glimmer of hope when they called off the operation, but she didn't expect that they were merely changing the location.

Right, her father owed them so much money. How could those people possibly let her go so easily?

Internally, Laurel murmured repeatedly to herself, "It's going to be alright! Just a small operation!"

Everything would be fine after the operation. Her brother wouldn't have to go to jail. Her father would get to keep his hands and feet intact, and her mother would no longer have to spend her days crying.

She couldn't tell how much time had passed. She only knew that a servant pushed her into the room, and after that, no one paid attention to her anymore.

Doubts filled her mind. Why would they not perform the surrogacy operation in the hospital? Why in this luxurious room instead? Why would they not do it during the day? Why in the depth of night instead?

Laurel asked that woman, but that woman just said, "Why do you have so many questions? All you need to do is cooperate and give birth to a child!"

Laurel knew that even the servants looked down on her. She was young, healthy, perfectly capable of work, yet she chose to earn money this way.

Her bright eyes gradually dimmed away in the darkness as the thought dawned on her.

In the darkness, she could clearly hear the sound of the wind and the waves outside the window, so harmonious and pleasant.

Laurel felt increasingly uneasy as she thought about what was happening. Just when she thought about escaping, the huge door was pushed open.

The door made a creaking sound which was followed by the sound of steady footsteps approaching.

In darkness, Laurel's body shrunk backward reflexively.

She inevitably made a noise when she moved. It seemed that it was only then that the man realized that there was someone else in the room. He immediately became alert. "Who? Who's in the room?"

Gregary Stewart went to turn on the lights, only to find that the lights in the room were broken.

The man's low-pitched voice was very pleasant to the ears. It sounded young yet magnetic, just as sweet as a glass of mellow red wine.

Who was he? Was he the doctor who would be performing the surgery on her?
