2025-01-24 01:16:33Jasmine's eyes fluttered open, her mind foggy. The room was smoky, flames engulfing everything.
She coughed, her voice hoarse. "Hhh...hel...llp." A searing pain shot through her belly, remnants of a recent childbirth.
A silhouette emerged from the haze. "Please...save me," she begged, before darkness consumed her.
When Jasmine came to, she lay in a hospital bed, slight burns covering her skin. The doctor smiled warmly. "Thank goodness you're awake, you're a very lucky lady."
Jasmine's thoughts swirled. "How did I get here?"
"We found you passed out in front of the hospital. Someone saved you and dropped you off," a nurse explained.
Jasmine's heart skipped a beat. "What about...my baby?"
The doctor's expression turned somber. "I'm sorry, ma'am. We only found you... Your baby is probably gone."
Jasmine's world shattered. "My baby!!!!!!"
.
Jasmine jolted awake, her heart racing. Little Aryan stood beside her, concern etched on his face. "Mommy, what's wrong?"
Jasmine forced a smile. "Just a bad dream, sweetie."
Aryan pouted. "You're crying."
Jasmine wiped away tears. "I'm fine, baby."
"I'll stay with Daddy today. I'll come back later," Aryan said, smiling.
Jasmine nodded weakly, her mind still reeling from the nightmare.
As Aryan left, Jasmine rose, drawing the curtain to illuminate her beautiful room. She began her morning routine, her blue eyes scanning her long, dark hair.
Her phone range, breaking the silence.
"Hello?" she answered gently.
"Hey, sis! Sara's being a handful. Can you come back soon?" Sam asked, exasperated.
Jasmine chuckled. "Caution her, I'm busy."
Sam sighed. "You're always busy. I'm stuck with your irresponsible sister."
Jasmine laughed. "Just give me some time. I'll straighten her head up."
Sam grumbled before hanging up.
Jasmine joined Elijah and his brother, Richard, in the kitchen. Elijah fed Aryan breakfast while Richard watched with a warm smile.
"Good morning, sister-in-law," Richard said.
"Hey," Jasmine replied, smiling.
Aryan pouted. "Daddy doesn't want to celebrate my birthday."
Jasmine reassured him. "He will, don't worry."
Elijah's eyes met Jasmine's, a flicker of warmth passing between them. "Something came up. I won't make it."
Jasmine's heart ached, sensing the unspoken tension.
Richard intervened. "We'll celebrate, kiddo. Don't worry."
After breakfast, Jasmine announced, "I'm going out for some fresh air."
Elijah looked up, concern etched on his face. "You sure you're okay?"
Jasmine agreed. "Yeah, just need some space."
Richard chimed in, "Hey, sis, take your time. We've got Aryan covered."
Jasmine smiled, grateful for the supportive family she'd found.
Outside, Jasmine strolled through the park, lost in thought. Her phone buzzed, breaking the silence.
"Hey, Jaz! Where are you?" Sam asked.
"Taking a walk, clearing my head," Jasmine replied.
"Meet me at the café. I need your expertise," Sam said.
Jasmine chuckled. "What now?"
"Sara's fashion emergency. She wants to wear neon green to the party"
Jasmine groaned. "I'm on my way."
At the café, Jasmine found Sam sipping coffee, Sara beside him, clad in the offending outfit.
"Jazz, tell her it's a transvestite!" Sam pleaded.
Jasmine laughed. "Sara, sweetie, you're rocking the neon. Own it!"
Sara beamed. "Thanks, Jazz!"
As they chatted, Jasmine's thoughts drifted to Elijah. Their interactions were always laced with tension, but she couldn't deny the sparks.
Later, back home, Jasmine helped Aryan with his homework while Elijah cooked dinner. Richard entertained them with silly impressions.
As the evening unfolded, Jasmine found herself stealing glances at Elijah. Their eyes met, and for a moment, the world stopped.
"Bedtime, kiddo," Elijah announced.
As Aryan slept, Jasmine helped with cleanup. Elijah's hand brushed hers, sending shivers down her spine.
"Thanks for today," Elijah said.
Jasmine's heart skipped a beat. "Anytime."
Their gazes locked, the air thick with unspoken emotions.
As the evening fell, Jasmine helped Aryan with his homework while Elijah worked on his study.
Aryan's laughter echoed through the hallway as Jasmine played a silly math game with him.
Elijah emerged from his study, his expression softening as he watched them.
"Time for bed, Aryan," he announced.
Aryan hugged Jasmine. "Night, Mommy."
Jasmine's heart skipped a beat. Aryan's innocent words pierced her soul.
Elijah's gaze met hers, a flicker of emotion in his eyes.
"Goodnight, Aryan," Jasmine whispered.
As Aryan left, Elijah turned to Jasmine. "I'll be working late. Don't wait up."
Jasmine, acknowledged feeling the familiar distance between them
