"Where are you heading?" The driver asked coldly without looking at the girl on the passenger seat.
"I don't... Sir, please bring me a little bit away from here first. Sorry to disturb you but I beg you to help me get out of this area right away. I will explain it later."
Puzzled by the girl's anxious face and hearing her awful voice, the driver then released the brake of the car.
Babette Morales was so terrified that she kept on turning her head and looked around to make sure that nobody has seen her and discovered her escape. She then bowed her head with her hands clasped on her forehead and whispered a prayer for her safety.
The taciturn driver then stepped on the accelerator and brought her away from that area. Babette Morales remained silent for a few minutes with the feeling of uncertainties. After the vehicles made two turns, she raised her head and looked to her left. She really did not know who her savior was by that time. A cold man wearing a black cap looked like between 25 to 27 years old.
"Can you drop me here?" Babette Morales broke the silence.
"What's in your mind? " The man asked in a baritone as he slowed down the car.
Uncertain with herself, she said, "It's just enough that you've helped me free from that place. "
"Have you killed? Or did you rob?" The driver asked with frowning brows.
Babette Morales shook her head. "No I didn't. Do I look one?"
The place where she picked the girl has no big establishments. Near the corner of the FS - ML streets was the Aqua KTV bar. It is a known bar employing minors.
Witnessing the terrified appearance and the attire Babette Morales a while ago, the man suspected something.
"Where do you plan to go?" This time the man asked with a concerned tone.
"I... I'm not sure. Actually... " Babette Morales looked out the window studying the place outside. Few establishments were opened and not many people were out. 'Where could I go. I really don't know this place.' Babette Morales thought. She has only but a few bills placed inside the secret pocket in her underware since her belongings were deposited in the counter. She can only survive for one or two days in this city.
Hearing of her uncertain answer, the driver increased the speed of the car.
"Sir, thank you but I have to drop off here," Babette Morales started to panic again. She held tightly the handle of the locked door.
Ignoring her, the driver continued driving with the higher speed. After five minutes, the car slowed down and entered the gate of a villa. Babette Morales then could not understand her feelings. Would this be another challenge of her innocence?
It was just her third day in Mayland City and it was her first time to step in this country's business capital. She was really a complete stranger of this city. If not because of her friend's uncle who bribed them a job here, she would have looked for other job after graduation. Never in her mind had she thought that the job she and her friend had landed was in the bar. Yet, she was able to escape that pit. But at the moment, she did not know what lies ahead of her knowing that she has no one to turn to in this late hour of the night.
"What's this place? Why did you bring me here?" Babette Morales asked as the car parked.
"You have no place to go, have you?"
The driver got off the car and opened the door for Babette Morales. He said, "It's already late at night to look for a place for you to rest, so you may have a rest here. It's free of charge."
She followed the man. She figured out that he was such a good-looking man standing around 6 feet. His body was a perfect one to be on the billboard. She thought that he seemed familiar but he could not clearly see his face inside the car because her mind was processing other things.
As they entered the house, the man told her to proceed to the left room of the second floor with his back facing her while going to his room leaving her behind. It was an exquisite living room with luxurious furniture.
In the guest room, she humbled herself looking at the comfortable bed with pillows and white cover. She sat on the sofa with a heavy heart and soul.
KNOCK. KNOCK.
The knock on the door quivered her heart.
'Babette, be careful. Be clever.' She boosted herself.
"Miss?"
It was the voice of the man.
She opened the door and saw his face and eye-catching prominent nose. She was stunned by the looks of her driver a while ago. He was not just an ordinary man. Her eyes were fixed on him.
"Don't be afraid." The man said as he noticed Babette Morales's stunned face. "You can use a towel here and you can use this set of pajamas."
It was then Babette Morales came to her senses.
"Huh?!"
"Don't worry. They"re unused. You can take your rest after taking a bath," the man said while turning his back.
"Oh, no! He looks like him!" Babette Morales muttered to herself. Her tensed heart was switched to a happy and blissful heart.
