Chapter 1

Mrs Thomson heaved a long sigh as she went through the handwritten letters in front of her. Next to her was her eighteen year old son, Felix Thomson, who had his hands swaying from side to side nonchalantly.

"Not again, Felix!" she suddenly cried out. Felix stared at her, shrugged and look away, he clearly was unconcerned.

"What have I done to deserve this?" she muttered, making to hit him.

He glided effortlessly to the other end of the couch, laughing.

"Chill Mum," he muttered under his breath.

"No me digas que me tranquilo! Three warning notes in a row? What did you do again?" she asked, then waved her hands almost immediately.

"No, don't even tell me," she said and sighed again.

"I'm tired of this Felix, I really am."

"I might go on with your father's suggestion," she sighed.

For the first time in two hours, Felix spoke. His voice was a deep baritone which caused a slight vibration in his throat.

"What? You've got to be kidding me!"

"No, I'm not. You're changing your school, Felix."

"But- there's no other school! I mean- you know I can't go to an ordinary school!" he exclaimed, his eyes widening with every word he uttered.

"Unfortunately, you'd have to go to an ordinary school," Mrs Thomson said.

"Mum, you can't do this!"

"You- you don't even know why I did what I did! You need to hear me out, I can't change schools." Felix ran to where she sat, his voice etched with unexplainable emotions.

"Uhn uhn. You're leaving, Felix. You need to go to a new place, start life afresh and control whatever...weird thing you've got there," Mrs Thomson said and regretted her words almost immediately.

"Weird?" he asked.

"I didn't mean it that way, Felix," she started and made to touch him but he pulled away as if her touch were toxic.

"You do think I'm a weird person after all," he laughed bitterly.

"Felix..."

"I am not weird, you are the one trying to send me to the weird ones- the abnormal ones!" he exclaimed.

"You and Dad. You're trying to change me, ain't you?" he asked. There was no reply.

"Fuck!" he yelled, running his fingers through his hair.

"Curse words, Felix," Mrs Thomson said calmly.

"Why do you care?" he asked rudely.

"I- I need to get out of here," he muttered quietly, joining both fists together.

"No, no, Felix don't do that!" Mrs Thomson yelled but it was too late.

"You... I know you're still here Felix," she said.

"Felix?" she called, her palms were slowly moving to her chest.

"Vamos lo siento, Felix," she whispered.

"Felix."

"Los humanos de todos modos," he muttered as he crushed the empty can he was holding and threw it out the window.

He was in a place he loved to call his Comfort Zone. This was the place he always went to whenever he had to avoid "humans," an abandoned storey building in the middle of nowhere. He had found it during one of his numerous escapades and had found solace in it ever since.

He stared out of the window and caught two figures, it looked like a young teenager having a heated argument with an old lady. The old lady seemed to be pulling the teenager's hair and hitting her severely.

"Barnacles," he muttered, shaking his head in sympathy. Then he stared at the setting sun and sighed deeply.

"Humans."
