Chapter 1

A chilly agony...

Rebecca's legs tensed, her otherwise sagging hands tightly clutched the bed bars on either side, and a howl of pain came out of her mouth as the warmthless equipment pierced into her lower torso without delay.

"Miss Rebecca, it will be painful at first, so spread your legs a little more."

Rebecca's pulse hammered violently as she carefully separated her legs, a stream of heat flowing down her cheeks in an instant as the doctor's voice resonated in her ears.

Her first time was given to this surrogate's particular vas deferens beneath her, not to her other half.

"Mr. Joshua does not want to delay," the doctor reminded again, "so Miss Rebecca's cooperation is still required."

Rebecca closed her eyes and struggled to open her legs, but tears began to pour down in torrents.

Would she have come as a surrogate if she hadn't been attempting to save her future in-laws?

Rebecca couldn't just sit back and watch because Barret was her fiancé, so she secretly agreed to sign a surrogacy contract with her company.

In exchange for the deal, Louise Inc receives a $20 million contract, which is insufficient to resurrect the family but sufficient to alleviate the bankruptcy issue.

Rebecca will do anything to make Barret happy.

...

The same hospital, ten months later.

Rebecca's thinking was foggy and her strength had faded before she was awakened by a baby's cry and opened her eyes.

The nurse was clutching a little, crumpled lump of a newborn.

"Congratulations on a healthy baby boy, and look at how loudly this little one is crying!" The nurse leaned down and gently placed the baby near Rebecca.

Rebecca had just finished looking at the baby when the door to the delivery room abruptly opened and a man with a stern countenance and a formal gown strode in, his attention fixed on the nurse: "Miss Rebecca's baby can be handed over to us now."

Rebecca's body shook; she hadn't even had an opportunity to see the baby; who is this? "What do you want?!" I can't help but panic.

"Miss Rebecca, I am the assistant to Mr. Joshua, the president of Louise Inc, and I believe you will not forget the contract with Louise Inc," the man said, pulling a printed contract from his briefcase. I'm here today to complete the contract and remove this youngster."

Rebecca felt a chilly breeze in her ears and heard him say, "The child looks like Mr. Joshua."

Rebecca's thinking stagnated; from the contract signing to the child's birth in October, she always forced herself not to invest too much emotion. But now that this lovely little life is in front of their own, the body has fallen off a bit of flesh, how can they carry her away willingly?

"Miss Rebecca, our Mr. Joshua's child will get our best care, you can rest assured," the man said, a little relieved.

Rebecca's body felt like a piece of lead had sunk in, and she almost didn't fall straight down as the door to the delivery room was opened again and sunlight streamed into the room.

Rebecca felt as if the air around her had frozen, and she couldn't make out the figure's face against the brightness.

He came to a halt five meters away, his voice slightly deep but captivating, piercing the air, opening his mouth and asking, "The child?"

The attendant rushed forward with the youngster in her hand and just said, "Mr. Joshua."

So he was Mr. Joshua?

Rebecca strained to open her eyes so she could see the man properly, but the sunlight still pierced her eyes like a white curtain, and she couldn't make out the man's face.

Rebecca let herself collapse on the hospital bed after a long struggle, her eyelids getting heavier and heavier, and in the second before the darkness completely wrapped her eyes, she only saw this man finally offer her a glance.

Rebecca had no idea how long she had slept, but when she awoke, she was in the main ward, where a little nurse was gathering up her belongings.

Rebecca was attempting to get up when the nurse noticed her movement.

"Miss Rebecca, you need to rest now, don't move around," the small nurse raced over to Rebecca.

Rebecca's heart trembled, and the silence surrounding her caused her to worry strangely; it all seemed like a nightmare.

"My..." she wanted to inquire about her child's whereabouts.

"Your child has been picked up by Mr. Joshua, according to the contract, the child no longer has a relationship with you, you should also rest assured that Mr. Joshua will give the child the best life possible," the nurse said. You should not bother them any longer, and what Louise Inc promised you will be completed by the contract deadline."

Rebecca felt her mouth dry, so she swallowed her tears and scraped her throat so hard that she couldn't say anything. Her heart felt as if a piece of it had been gouged out, and the soft, sticky sight of her child stayed in her imagination as she dully caressed her belly; the baby she had been carrying for ten months had died without even being touched.
