Chapter 1

Fiona

"How I wish you had never left us. I... "

"Stop acting like you care!" My words are interrupted by my mother's roar.

I turned around and found my parents glaring at me from my room door.

"When she knows it's time for her sister's remembrance, she puts on this show. No one is buying it," Father said.

"If you say you miss her, then you should have died that day, instead of her," I heard from Father while leaving my room with Mom.

My heart ached on hearing that statement. I felt so weak.

It's been five years since the rogue attack on the Dark Wood pack. It was the most terrible battle I have ever seen.

That was the day my sister left this world while trying to save me. She died saving my life, and everyone thinks It's my fault.

Her remembrance is tomorrow.

But I am not allowed to mourn her. They all think I'm faking it.

Just like my parents, the pack members, once they spotted me, couldn't help but speak poorly about me.

"Murderer."

"Children, stand this way. You don't want her bad luck following you."

"Luna Lyanna didn't deserve to die! It's all your fault we lost her!" I heard someone scream from behind, causing others to join in.

This has been my life for five years.

Will I ever find peace in this place?

I sat far away from anyone's sight, remembering that horrible night from five years ago.

My sister, Lyanna. She wouldn't have died if she hadn't tried to save me.

I still remember when she extended her hands to me from the cliff where I was hanging, only for me to see a silver dagger piercing right out of her chest and her blood splashing on my face.

That night was horrible. I can't seem to wipe that scene out of my head.

When Alpha Elian and everyone else learned she died while saving me, their hatred began at once. Everyone wished that I had died that day instead of Lyanna.

Tomorrow is going to make it five years since my sister's passing and when my torment began.

"How I wish I could rewind time and stop Lyanna from saving me. But it's impossible," I cried, wrapping my arms around my chest.

"Goddess, " I said, looking to the heavens with pain in my heart.

"If you can hear me, please, I need your help. I have no one to stand by me, no one to support me. Everyone wishes death upon me, and I..." I sobbed, trying to hold back my tears.

"All I ask for is a mate to be by my side. A man to speak for me when all are against me. A man that'll fill the gap in my heart and take this loneliness away. Please, help me with this one wish, I beg you," I prayed with pain.

*************

After staying away from home all morning, I finally returned in the evening to find two guards standing outside my home.

"These are the Alpha's guards," I identified, drawing nearer to the house.

With curiosity, I asked the guards why they were there.

"The Alpha has invited his late Luna's parents over for the remembrance ceremony tomorrow," They shared.

"Oh, so am I..."

I paused on seeing how they both looked at themselves, then back at me with pity.

I could understand their sign language. The Alpha didn't invite me.

I gave a fake smile.

It's not like it's the first time. He has been doing this on every remembrance day. I'm surprised he sent guards this time.

My parents stepped out and followed the guards without looking my way. They acted like I didn't even exist.

"At least I'll have the house to myself, " I sighed, stepping into the house.

But my attention caught something on the table. It's Mom's shawl.

"Goodness! Mom forgot her favorite Shawl. She always has this with her, especially at night when it's cold," I said, taking hold of it.

I didn't know if I should go after her or just leave it. But the thought of being blamed for forgetting the Shawl troubled me.

I had no choice but to take the Shawl and go after my parents.

*****

Arriving at the Alpha's home, I felt so relieved that the guards didn't stop me when I made mention of my parents. They allowed me inside.

"It's been a long time since I visited Alpha's home. I hope I'm able to find my parents," I said, trying to remember some paths.

As I walked, I could feel a strong connection, pulling me from around. My heart glowed as I heard my wolf saying the word MATE to me.

This left me stunned. My mate is here at the Alpha's home.

I picked up his scent, which began pulling and calling my attention. I felt happiness taking over as I followed this strong pull.

"At last, the goddess has heard my cry. I can finally be with my mate and..."

All of a sudden, I bumped into someone right at the corner. I almost fell but got caught by the person.

When I looked, fear took over me at once.

"Alpha Elian?" I called, staring at my late sister's mate, who had his eyes on me in shock.

"Mate," My wolf signaled again, leaving me horrified.

The connection I was feeling was coming from the Alpha himself.

He's my mate?!

From the way Elian looked at me, I could tell he felt it too. His eyes widened as he carefully helped me to my feet.

"Goddess, what kind of test is this? How can this man be my mate? The last thing I want is to be around him. Why choose him? " I questioned in my heart, still looking at Elian.

But does the goddess see him as fit?

Maybe she can see he's the one that'll bring happiness to my heart.

"I shouldn't jump to conclusions. I should see the good side of this. Elian might just be..."

"Why will the goddess make this mistake?" Elian said, leaving my heart crumbling.

"You are not like Lyanna, so why will the goddess do this?" He swayed his head, looking displeased.

I'm not like Lyanna? Must I look like my older sister to be his mate?

The one I thought could give me a chance of happiness, clearly doesn't want me. It's my sister he still wants.

For five years everyone has been seeing me as my sister's wannabe. Everything is about her and not me. But not anymore. I'm done living under my sister's shadow.

Tired of this, I said, " I don't accept this bond. I reject you, Alpha Elian."

"I reject you as well, Fiona. It's unacceptable," He quickly said.

I felt my heart skitter in pain on seeing how he swiftly accepted the rejection.

I'm tired of this life and this pack.

"I can't stand this anymore," I said, gripping the shawl tightly.

"No one wants me anyway. I see no reason why I should remain in this pack where everyone sees me as an unwanted member. I'll leave this place and never return," I decided before Elian.
