The night was dark as the moon was hidden in the dark clouds.
The wind blew violently making the trees dance to its direction.
Normally, there were always chirping of insects and other night creatures. But this particular night was eerily silent.
It was as if all the insects and night creatures had suddenly gone into hiding.
Richmond Santo, the gamma of Red moon pack was seen pacing around in the pack's infirmary.
Mary Santo, his mate was in one of the wards. She had been in labor for hours.
" Ahhhhh!" She screamed in pain. The pain was becoming unbearable for her. She wished it would be over soon.
She never knew it would be like this. After all, it was her fourth pregnancy. The previous ones did not take much time to birth them.
Gamma Richmond's heart broke at every scream of pain his mate made.
He silently prayed to the moon goddess to help his mate.
" Don't worry. Your mate is a strong woman. She will pull through this." Liam Payne, his best friend said trying to calm his nerves as he was losing control over his wolf.
" How can you tell me to calm down? My mate has been there for hours. I hear nothing but her agonizing cries. And you are here telling me to calm down?" Gamma Richmond said with a very deep voice that did not sound like his.
He was losing control over his wolf.
He felt like going in there to see his mate. But he was not sure what he would do once he was there. As he was on the verge of losing control over his wolf.
" Chill man. I can assure you that your mate will be fine." Liam said with his hands up.
" Contain your wolf. You can't lose control over your wolf." Liam Payne said with all seriousness.
Richmond nodded in agreement and pushed his wolf to the back of his mind amidst its protest and shut him out.
In one of the wards in the pack's infirmary, a woman could be seen crying in pain and some midwives tried to calm her down.
" Mrs. Santos, you can do this. Just take a deep breath and push. I can feel the head of the baby." Rose, one of the midwives said while patting her on the shoulder.
" I... can't... take... the.... pains. P.. please...call... my...mate." Mary Santos struggled to say.
" Ok, we will do that. Gem, call Gamma Richmond, tell him his mate requests for his presence." Rose responded and sent one of the midwives to call Gamma Richmond.
" Gamma, your mate needs your attention in the ward," Gem said as she got to the gamma.
Gamma Richmond was trying his best to stay calm before Gem informed him that his mate needed his attention.
" You can go with...." Liam started to say but was unable to complete his sentence as Gamma Richmond zoomed off with the speed of lightning.
' The things people do for their mates." Liam thought with a sigh. He silently prayed that he would find his mate soon.
"Mary, are you okay?" Gamma Richmond asked immediately after he got to the ward.
" I'm... okay now that you are here," Rose said and smiled weakly.
" Gamma, we don't have much time, you need to encourage her to push otherwise we might lose both her and the baby," Rose said with urgency.
Gamma Richmond felt like his heart was ripped off when he heard that he might lose his mate.
His wolf broke through with force and grabbed Rose by the neck.
" If anything happens to my mate, I will rip off your heart and shred you into pieces. Now, get to work and make sure that my mate delivers successfully otherwise... " Gamma Richmond said with his wolf leaving his words hanging at the end.
Rose nodded in response as she could not respond with her mouth due to how tight Gamma Richmond held her neck.
She would have been long dead if she was human.
Gamma Richmond gave one last look before releasing her neck.
She fell with a thud but she quickly stood up and make her way to Mary's bed.
With shaky hands and voice, she instructed the other midwives to leave the ward. The other midwives nodded in understanding and left without uttering a word.
" Mrs. Santos, you can get this over with. Do you want your mate to rip off my heart?" Rose said and asked with a shaky voice.
" No." Mrs. Santos whispered.
" Good. Then you need to follow every instruction I give, " Rose said with a sad smile.
" Now take a deep breath and push with all your strength," Rose instructed.
Mary Santos did as instructed and pushed.
" that's it. You are almost there. take a deep breath and push with all your strength," Rose said with a smile.
After four more pushes, a cry of a baby could be heard.
The much-awaited baby was finally out. But no one moved as they were all stunned by what they were seeing.
A human? The child was human. How was it possible? Both parents were werewolves. How could this be possible?
"A human? How is this possible?" Gamma Richmond asked in disbelief.
Humans were the lowest rank in the pack. They were regarded as nothing but slaves.
The only time a human could be born to a werewolf was when he or she was mated to a human, which rarely happened.
But this was a mystery to them. How could a werewolf give birth to a human?
It was like a lion giving birth to a goat.
Rose was so astonished to say a word. This was the first time, she would see something like that in all her years of being a midwife.
Mary Santos could not believe her eyes. How could the moon goddess give her a human daughter? What was her offense? she thought silently as she looked at the baby with disgust.
Gamma Richmond felt like killing the baby. If not for the law prohibiting werewolves from killing humans who were born in the pack and those mated to one of them, he would have killed her the instant she was born.
He sighed sadly as he knew that he would be losing his position as the gamma of the Red moon pack.
It was no news that it was a standing rule in Red moon pack that a gamma related to a human either by birth or marriage would be stripped of his position.
Without uttering a word, Richmond Santos walked out of the ward.
