Alexa's POV
It was the first day of a month known as the Moon,and it marked the day of the Full Moon Festival in the Wood Cave Pack.This year,for the first time,members of the Crystal Pack were also invited,a gesture that honored the long term relationship between the two packs.
The Full Moon Festival has always been a day of celebration for everyone.It is the day we worship and bless the Moon Goddess for her kindness and mercy.It is also the day we young,unmated wolves get to find and sense our mates.
While everyone was busy dancing and enjoying themselves,I stood apart from the crowd,gazing into the sky and admiring its full beauty.I was all smiles,contemplating whether to make a wish or not,when I heard a loud growl from behind me.
"Mate!"I froze before turning to see who it was.I reared back,stunned at who I found in front of me with red eyes growling.
It was Kelvin,the crown prince and soon-to-be Alpha of the Crystal Pack.Kelvin threw me a look of disgust upon meeting my eyes.
"You?"Kelvin threw me a look of disgust as our eyes met,"How cruel can the Moon Goddess be to pair me with useless,unwanted trash like you?"he yelled,panting heavily.
I stood there speechless and stunned,realizing Kelvin Castle was my mate.He growled disapprovingly once more before storming off angrily,leaving me behind with a shattered and broken heart.
I fell to my knees,clutching my heart painfully,tears brimming in my eyes.My wolf whimpered from excruciating pain,and I knew then that Kelvin was going to reject us as his mate.A tear dropped from my eye at the thought.I found a nearby chair to sit on and calm myself.The crowd was too engrossed in their fun to notice what had happened between Kelvin and me,for which I was grateful.
A few hours passed,and the festival was ending soon.I still sat on the chair,looking miserable but beginning to have a glimmer of hope.I was convinced Kelvin would not reject me.I started to feel a little excited,thinking he might have changed his mind and decided to accept me as his mate.But how wrong I was.
I saw Kelvin enter with a lady.When she turned,I gasped in amazement.Seeing their entangled hands made my heart crumble again.Kelvin was with my stepsister and nemesis,Stephanie.
I was praying earnestly to the Moon Goddess not to let it be what I feared.Kelvin,still holding Stephanie's hand gently,called everyone's attention to him,and I knew what was coming next.
"I am calling you all here to witness what I am about to do,"Kelvin began.Tears streamed down my cheeks,and my wolf,Daniella,growled in pain.She could feel the bond between Kelvin and me almost breaking.
'Why?'Daniella asked painfully,and I sniffled.'Why does he have to do this to us?'she asked again,and I kept quiet,not knowing what to say.I was the reason for all this;if I weren't useless and unwanted,I wouldn't be in this situation,nor would Daniella.
'Don't blame yourself,'Daniella warned.
"I,Kelvin Castle,am rejecting Alexa Finn,as my mate and future Luna,"Kelvin finally said those dreaded words.There was a loud gasp from everyone.I stood up weakly,feeling like my heart was on fire.The excruciating pain made me scream.
Amidst my pain,I looked up slowly at Kelvin,hoping to see some regret for hurting me this way,but his face showed only arrogance.
"Alexa Finn does not deserve any of these titles;for this reason,they will be given to someone else,"he continued,and I saw Stephanie throw me a smug,mocking look.It was bad enough that he rejected me,but I did not want him to complete that statement.Before I could stop him with my screams,he continued.
"I hereby announce Stephanie Finn as my chosen mate and Luna,"he declared.I screamed,and Daniella howled in agony.The pain was too much for me to bear,and I collapsed on the floor,immediately blacking out,tears rolling down my cheeks.
The world around me faded into darkness,and I felt as though I was falling into an endless void.My mind was a whirlwind of pain and confusion.The betrayal,the humiliation,and the heartbreak overwhelmed my senses,leaving me in a state of utter despair.
I woke up,startled by the light flashing into my room,and found myself on my bed.I was still wondering how I got here.Then flashes of what happened last night immediately plunged me into despair,and I groaned,feeling my heart crack again.The wound was still fresh.I started shedding tears,whimpering from the pain,betrayal,and abandonment,longing for anyone to accept me.
The worst part was that Kelvin chose my stepsister over me.My tears flowed continuously from my eyes,no matter how hard I tried to stop them.
Then I remembered something and froze in happiness.Stephanie,as father's first daughter,was destined to fulfill her duties by marrying the disabled prince from the Moonlight Pack.This meant she could not be Kelvin's mate since she would belong to someone else in two days.
I immediately started laughing out loud,rejoicing within.
'Do not tell me that even if the douchebag comes back,you are still going to accept him after the humiliation he put us through last night?'My wolf,Daniella,growled in fury.
"I…"I was about to reply when my door flung open,and in came my father,an old man in his sixties.He walked towards me with his usual cold gaze and expression.My father has never smiled at me,but he always does at Stephanie.He loves and adores her,giving her whatever she wants,while I,on the other hand,get hand-me-downs.
I knew my father too well to believe he came to check on me;he came for something else,something I dreaded would lead to another disaster for me.
"Father,"I called in acknowledgment,bowing my head slightly and looking down at the floor.My father,as usual,ignored my greeting.My mouth was left agape at his mean and heartbreaking statement.
"You are getting married,"my father said.
