Chapter 1

~Aurora POV~

The elegant bright light from the ballroom grimaced on my lush skin as I gaze at it with mirth. I could sense this was going to be the biggest heist we have ever pulled off--- I and my band of thieves, although we don't call ourselves that.

"Pythagoras will you hurry, this corset is sucking the life out of me," I said holding onto my compressed tummy, forcing myself to breathe.

"Don't blame this one on me, you were the one who chose to go as a princess. Do you know how risky this is?" Pythagoras asked, reaching towards me the best he can.

"Oh please don't complain now, since when did you care about risk" I hissed, trying to pull up my long gown, we would have come along with some of our members to act as maids but the newly ordained King was very much on our tail.

Especially since we stole the Kingdom's biggest diamond, which was a stupid heist since no one is willing to buy it from us and most of the other things in our possession.

These are reasons why we haven't been able to travel away due to tight security but today will be different, we plan on talking and taking away pieces of jewelry from these Elites who feel they are better than everyone else-- they are.

"So have you come up with a name for the princess you are going to be this time?" Pythagoras asked.

"Princess Aurora, daughter of King Elon the First of Nye. No one's going to suspect me because I am a princess from a tiny kingdom that doesn't exist and you are my guard" I slightly tapped Pythagoras on his shoulder and felt him jerk a bit.

"I still think this is a bad idea and when I get negative, you know that things don't go well" Pythagoras continuously voiced out his complaint while I was more focused on the noble ladies stepping out of their carriages with their ball gowns which were tailored perfectly.

Their giggle of excitement and murmurings about charming the new king at the end of the day was truly their main aim, nothing these noble women won't do to get the seat of the Queen, and tonight might probably be their best night after all.

"Start thinking positive Pyth, we are already here" I grinned. Pythagoras groaned as he quickly obtain his posture as my guard whose job wasn't to complain about this suicide mission and just do as I ask.

I gave out my name at the door to be called out and felt the way everyone went silent as I stepped into the ballroom, of course, it was to be expected, I was a nobody princess that would not have been allowed in without my forged invitation card.

I sighed, maintained my poise and composure as a real princess would, and blended with the crowd.

I kept my head in a firm position, with my back arched properly and my hands tucked underneath each other, I smiled and bowed when needed and joined in conversations of which I knew nothing.

Some of the conversations were about me and my crew, it's funny how we shook the nobles by storm after stealing the diamond, everyone was on their toes now.

"I can't wait for those rogues to be caught! The audacity of them to come to the capital and do such thing." Lord Simon voiced out.

"Exactly! I feel we have given them enough freedom that they think they can do whatever they like" I agreed with him. "When I was traveling down here and heard of those rebels, I was shaking because in my kingdom nothing of that sort occurs" I added.

Seeing that they all agreed instantly, I knew I was heading somewhere with this conversation.

"To think such is happening and the king plans on finding a wife for himself before it will spread across the borders about him being impotent" Lord Simon went on to reveal much to everyone's surprise.

"So the rumors are real?" Lady Diana asked for more confirmation.

I for one couldn't be surprised, what was my business with an impotent king, when his father, the former king before he died displaced my people to build a bridge and make friendly relations with Kingdom Zra many horrible things happened to my people that I never wish to remember.

There was no need for me to waste any more time in this discussion. I smoothly took off a piece of each one of their jewelry and walked away from that conversation before they would even notice.

I stash it inside the big pocket in my ball gown, there was the usefulness of this uncomfortable wear after all.

The trumpet blared three times to seek everyone's attention, it was also an opportunity for me to steal more with them distracted.

"All bow to the king of Juofou, King Sebastian" The whole room fell into a bow in honor of the king, he didn't seem much into the festivities as he proceeded.

"The king shall have his first dance of the evening" the king's adviser announces.

Though I couldn't see him, I could tell Sebastian didn't share the same enthusiasm as he spoke out lazily, "Not now, let our guest enjoy the evening before I pick a beautiful maiden to dance with" he forced out a smile.

"What's wrong with him?" I hissed, blurted out while having my eyes roll.

"He is probably stressed" someone answered back from behind me, my face froze thinking back if I had said that out loud. "He is the king now, the job of worrying over the people might have taken a toll on him"

I exhaled, putting on my best smile before turning to this handsome stranger, they don't make them this chiseled these days.

"My Lord" I bowed in a curtsey, lowering my head even more to drown my shame, I even think I have overstayed my welcome. "My sincerest apologies, I didn't know I had voiced out my thoughts which were ignorant of me"

The man chuckled, "I don't care about that, besides one needs to be truthful, and also this apology should be directed to the king himself, I found it amusing"

I bit my lip before lifting my head, can't believe this man just humbled me just so I can continue this façade.

"I am glad you found it amusing but please let's make it our little secret," I said with a fake smile, there was no way he could tell the difference.

"It would be my pleasure to keep this little secret of ours." He offered his best smile to match mine. "I am Prince Caspian, King Sebastian's twin brother," he said.

I almost coughed out, had my worries now flooding my brain, and wasn't sure he could be trusted now. "Twin brother? You two look nothing alike" I said, looking over at the King to confirm for myself.

"We get that a lot, but he is my twin, we were both born on the same day by different mothers," He said unwittingly, does he take me for a fool or someone who can't determine how twins are formed?

"You two are just brothers born on the same day, I guess he came out first, which is why he is the king," I said, still choosing to continue this ridiculous conversation rather than planning my escape.

"I am sorry but these are family issues that shouldn't be disclosed or discussed, I hope you understand," Caspian said.

"My apologies for prying into your business, such traits of mine need to be tamed. Please excuse me" I said in a haste to leave this awkward place and the ball as well.

"Wait" he called out to me, again I turned to him, "You haven't told me your name"

"Oh... I am Princess Aurora of the Kingdom of Nye" I replied as I make a turn to leave again.

"I haven't heard of a kingdom like that" He replied.

"That's because we are extremely small in size and we live off the farther north" I answered, my eyes caught Pythagoras at a corner giving me signals, I knew time was up but this prince won't let me leave with his follow-up questions.

"I should visit sometime, you seem to be in a haste, I wanted to ask you for a dan..." Caspian didn't get to finish his sentence as I felt a hand whisk me away.
