Chapter 1

Therese POV

A group of people, some carrying flaming torches, are looking for me. I was terrified. But, in order to escape, I kept running barefoot from them. Despite my tiredness and difficulty breathing, I pushed myself to sprint away from them.

Despite the anguish in my heart and the blood trickling from my knee, I keep running. I recall falling to the ground and being struck with something, which caused my knee to bleed. But I don't care anymore. That is not necessary at this time.

I have been running for a while now and have lost sight of them. I stop and hide myself away behind the tree. I breathe deeply, and then I close my eyes. I muttered mumbling, "What the hell is happening to me right now? Why are they hunting me?" I couldn't think straight as my mind tried to grasp what was occurring to me at the moment. I can't explain it, but all I sense is that something is wrong.

"Therese, you evil woman. You will never get away from us." My eyes widened when I heard a voice slowly walking towards me. In my fear, I covered my mouth so they couldn't hear me. My whole body was sweating from nervousness and I suddenly felt a pain in my knee. It turned out that it was because of the wound earlier, that I only now felt the pain. I bit my lip to endure the pain. I didn't realize that suddenly tears welled up in my eyes without realizing it. "God, p-pease help me." I whispered while crying in pain.

"We will burn you alive, you witch!" I was so nervous. As time went by, the rustling I heard near the tree I was hiding was getting louder. It only means they were already near me. The flow of blood on my knee was getting stronger and I slowly tore my dress to cover it.

For a few moments, my two eyes saw the blood on my hands. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It's not the blood that makes my eyes widen, it is what I am feeling. I held my eyes, tried to close them and open them and that's when I proved that I could see. "No way," I uttered, surprisingly.

"There you are. You made it difficult for us to find you evil.." I was surprised that someone was already in front of me, and immediately pointed to the fire he was holding. I couldn't move from my place, until I felt the fire in my body as if I was being burned.

"No please.." I can't speak, only my mind can hear what I'm saying as if I was in a dream. After that, my eyes only saw a fire around me.

"No!!" I suddenly woke up. I look around and see nothing but darkness. I touched my eyes again, and now I saw nothing. I was completely blind after all.

"What happened Therese? Are you okay?" Then, my mother touched my hand.

I nodded. "I'm fine, mother." I just replied but my mind was floating, processing every episode of my nightmare. But now, it is the worst. I saw myself burned alive.

"Nightmare again?" Mother uttered.

"Yes, I-I don't know what's happening to me." Then, I touch my eyes. "My nightmare is becoming worse, mother. My eyes couldn't see, but my dreams were crystal clear as if it was real."

She sighed and hugged me. "It's okay, Therese. I'm here, I'm always here.." she rubbed my back.

"Thank you." I said. Since I had a nightmare my mother is always with me to sleep. She's always beside me and I'm really grateful she's here.

"Let's get to sleep again, okay?" I nodded, immediately. "Oh, I forgot. You said earlier you lost your blind fold, so I made you this." She held my hand and gave me the blind fold for my eyes. But you know what, it wasn't just a blind fold but it is a lucky charm my mother made for me. She embroidered my blind fold and made it look pretty as always.

I touch and feel it. "Wow, it's pretty. You embroidered it with flowers, am I right?" She chuckled, gracefully.

"Yes, you got it again. Well, you have a lot of plain old blind fold so I decided to embroider it to make it new and prettier, because I know it will look good on you."

I smiled with such joy. "Thank you for this mother, I'll wear this tomorrow."

"Okay," she said. Then, we get back to sleep again. I tried to close my eyes, but it was hard to get back to sleep again. My body moved side by side. I'm restless, because my dream is still in my mind and I'm trying to figure out why all my dreams seem to fit together like a chapter in a book.

I sighed. All my life, I only see darkness, there's no light nor beautiful things you can see, but sometimes I don't take that as pity for myself. I can still sense things, like I can touch, I can smell, I can hear and I can feel. Actually, that is the only beautiful thing I can imagine, even without my eyes I can still experience one of the beautiful things in this world.

I breathe heavily. "You're still awake.." I heard my mother's voice beside me.

"Did I wake you up? I'm sorry." I murmured.

"No. I didn't fall asleep too, I was waiting for you to sleep but it seems like you're awake. You must be thinking something again, what really bothers you, you can tell it to me."

I leaned towards her and smiled. "Don't worry, I was just distracting myself so that I can sleep."

"Do you want me to tell you a story?" She recommended it.

"That would be nice." I nodded and smiled.
