Chapter 1

Dora’s POV

It was winter.

I had to wake up in the early hours of the morning to prepare breakfast.

It was my thiird marriage anniversary and I had planned on preparing a candlelit dinner to surprise my husband.

Hopefully,I prayed that he comes home this time.

He had gone away and had refused coming home for the past few months, keeping me in suspense.

“ Ding!

A message popped up on my phone screen. I glanced at it to view who the messanger was.

My eyes caught my husband's picture with another lady whose face was blurred out.

Daniel Lawson had himself enwrapped in the arms of the lady whose face was outrightly edited.

From their compromising posture,it was obvious that they had been intimate. I was stunned at the moment, I could feel a prick in my chest area.

It was that of pain, jealousy and envy. I sobbed bitterly, streaks of tears dropping down my puffy red eyes.

“Ding!

Another message dropped on my phone.

Where had your husband been all night?

Don't you think he had endured enough, the pains of living with a woman whose wombs could barely carry a fetus?

A woman who eats up her own child?

Was the message from the unknown number.

I felt drained and heartbroken, my hands were fidgety and I found it hard to absorb the shock i had just heard.

Unluckily for me, I had several miscarriages in the past which had shattered the happiness of my home.

Rubbing her sore throat, I swallowed a lump.

I wandered my eyes through the room and finally dropped my gaze on the pancake I had before me.

Hot streak of tears flowed down my eyes which I freely allowed.

When I had gotten married to Daniel Lawson three years ago, he had promised to love and cherish me till the end of his breath, which he kept, not until my mysterious miscarriages kept huanting him and he had to stay away from home.

I wiped the tears on my face using the back of my arms, it was time I accepted reality. Daniel had loved me enough.

I lowered the microwave pressure to avoid the pancake getting burnt. I staggered to the bathroom, feeling heartbroken and completely shattered.

“How could I be so careless and inconsiderate even to the extent of hurting an unborn child I harbored in my womb?” I asked rhetorically.

I turned on the shower and the cold drops of water energized my body, giving little hope to my weary soul. After the bath, I staggered into the bedroom, I admired the beautiful picture of Daniel and I which I had as my phone wallpaper and I let out a sly smile.

I reminisced about the old day where he had to buy me lovely flowers too. My mind went back to our outing nights which bonded us and made us act like young teenagers who had just discovered love.

How about the numerous special events where Daniel had to take me along and wouldn't oblige into attending any without me even if I insisted.

What about the lovely moments where Daniel had to blindfold my eyes as we played hide and seek on our matrimonial bed.

Pain squeezed out of my heart as I reminisced the good old days.

“It was all my fault” I repeated loudly to myself.

Daniel had loved me wholeheartedly not until the very day I disappointed him.

He had warned me to desist from alcohol multiple times but I couldn't help myself.

Daniel was a loving, caring and romantic husband not until the last miscarriage I had which turned the sanity of my home into ruins due to the over intake of alcohol I had earlier.

Daniel had become the opposite of what he had always been. My once loving husband had turned into a beast, staying away from home and avoiding me as though I was a plague.

I consoled myself, folding my hands to my breast.

I was my only comfort.

I glanced at the phone which laid helplessly on the bed and I had to pick it up. I could hear my heartbeat clearly and my head was banging severely. I touched my neck and it was obvious that I had developed a high temperature.

I needed to call Daniel’s number and inform him of my sudden ill health. I needed to see the doctor as soon as possible because my blood pressure might have increased.

Dialing Daniel's number, I placed it on my ears.

“ Hello”

“Sweetheart, please come home, I am sick” I begged him,my voice quavering.

“What is it?” The voice was expressionless.

I was sure that the voice at the other end of the call wasn't that of Daniel. He had never displayed such a carefree attitude.

Daniel would always jump in fright to take actions anytime he noticed a slight change in my attitude or health.

“Stop beating around the bush”

“What exactly do you want from me, I am so busy” he grumbled annoyingly.

I raised my eyebrows in utter shock. It was hard for me to believe that these words were coming from the mouth of Daniel.

“Baby….ba” I stammered, lacking the exact words to match his cold attitude.

“ How much do you need?Ezra has the password, tell him the amount you would be needing, I would instruct him to give it to you right away”

“ I am busy at work and I would no longer condone any sort of irrelevant disturbance or calls anymore” that was Daniel’s scornful voice which indicated the abrupt end of the call.

My world was shattered into shreds.

“ What exactly had Daniel turned me into?”

“ A bumpkin?”

He hardly trusted me that he had to entrust his passwords into the hands of a maid.

“ Which wife had to fill forms and send requests to a maid before any money could be given to her?”

He had instructed me to ask Ezra for money, forgetting the tiresome process of filling forms for money requests he had placed as a rule.

I sighed heavily. This was absolutely not the man I got married to.

The Daniel of my youth could never display such behavior even to his enemy.

“ Hell!!!”

“ He had totally forgotten today was our third wedding anniversary.

I stood up to complete the dinner I left unfinished at the kitchen.

My eyes were dizzy and I felt the earth spinning around me.

“Why the hell was all these happening to me on my wedding anniversary?” I lamented as I collapsed into the nearby settee.

“ And who had sent me the previous messages?” I asked, directing no one in particular.
