She stared at the horizon and breathed in clean cool air. She loved sailing, always did since when she was a little girl going with her family. She really missed those days. But now they were all gone. Her parents had been killed in a car accident leaving she and her little sister Bella for her to take care of.
Now everything's different she wasn't going on holiday with her family or a leisure boat ride to forget about everything and the world. Now her life held in a balance where she had to choose between what she was told ,no, ordered to do
What she'd lived most was to save people ,well not in the way superheroes coin movies or in kid cartoon. But in a literal sense using her profession as an Obstetrician, she'd saved mothers who brought new life into this earth by helping them. It's the least she could do to help the people in three Creeks.
It's not everyday that the towns people get medical officials posted not a small town in southern Manitoba so she happily stayed to help. But now shed being forced to move. She closed her eyes reminiscing the last conversation she'd had with her head of Obstetrics.
"What?" Beatrice frowned." You've got to be kidding me?"
" No,I'm not Beatrice. The board had decided to bring in new rational OBS .
They said that that's what's best." Dr Collins said firmly.
"But you know it's hard in these smaller communities to get proper assistance when needed." She shit back.
"Well I don't care! Just get your stuff and move to Minnesota. That's a big chance as you'll get.
The least you can do is appreciate it."
He said storming out leaving her to glare at his back.
But no matter what she was a professional above all else. Her patients came first. And even though she knew nothing about those rational OBS, but teaching the ins and outs of three Creeks Medical would be an extra burden on the staff one they'd grudgingly do.
Unlike all those other doctors who would someday come and go , she wanted to stay for the long haul.
"Beatrice."
"What?" She snapped out of her reverie to look at the big brown eyes locked to hers.
"I was asking ,what you were thinking about. Because you've got that lost look that you've always got when you're in deep thought." Bella said pushing up her frame before it slide over her nose.
"You know I always think you're too smart for your age."
Bella stuck out her tongue before saying. "I'll be twelve next week what do you expect?" She said with a shirt laugh.
"Now let's not grown up too much." Beatrice said before silence descended upon them. The since was so thick that if a pin were to drop it could be heard loud and clear.
"Beatrice?"
"Yes?"
"Why do we have to leave?"
She turned to face her sister who stood holding the rails of the ship tightly that her knuckles had turned white. She could tell that her sister was scared , she was scared too, of what she could find when she GATS there. But she had to be strong.
"Well I got transferred to somewhere better. Where we would live a better life." She said as she covered her hand over her sister's own which still held the rail.
"I don't know if you're trying to convince me or yourself? And I know you don't want to tell me because you think I'm too young and want to protect me. But I assure you, I'm fine." She said putting up a smile.
Beatrice sighed and leaned on the ship's rail gazing out to the sea.
"I know you are Bella. I know you are." She squeezed Bella's hand slightly with a faint smile. If only she knew what destiny had in stored for her Beatrice thought.
