Chapter 1

"Bobbie, please. Come home with me."

Ariana Barnes pleaded in a low voice, ignoring the teasing and mocking looks around her in the private room.

Ariana's husband, Bobbie Davies, got up stiffly and walked out the door with an ashen face.

However, he led Ariana into another private room instead.

"I'm not interested in celebrating our so-called wedding anniversary. Take this and go shopping instead!" Bobbie pulled out a credit card from his wallet and dropped it on the table in front of Ariana with a cold expression.

Bobbie did not stay for a second longer. He turned around and left.

"Bobbie!" Ariana anxiously grabbed his sleeve, "Would you believe me if I tell you that it was not for my own sake that I broke the promise at that time?"

"Would you believe it yourself?" Bobbie asked her back, the corner of his lips held a hint of mockery. "If not so, was it for my sake then?"

Indeed, it was.

If Bobbie could recall the past, everything would make sense to him.

Unfortunately, he had forgotten.

Bobbie's oblivion rendered Ariana's explanations ridiculous and shameful.

Succumbing to despair, Ariana slumped her shoulders.

All of a sudden, the alarm rang.

It was twelve o'clock at midnight. Their wedding anniversary had ended.

This meant that the time Ariana had set for letting go had arrived.

Even so, she still wanted to make one last attempt.

"Bobbie..."

Before Ariana could say more, her phone rang again.

She looked at her phone and saw a photo of a man and woman hugging each other in bed.

The man in the photo was Bobbie, her husband right in front of her.

He had gotten involved with someone else. A dirty affair.

And she didn't want a man stained like that!

"Let's get a divorce."

At this moment, she finally made up her mind.

Ariana silently let go of Bobbie's sleeve.

Bobbie turned his head in surprise as he stared at Ariana. He could not believe that the woman who was begging him submissively to spend their anniversary with her one second ago would say something like this the next.

However, a clever and calculating woman like her, how could she let go of the title of Mrs. Davies so easily?

"The password is eight zeros!" Bobbie said, then completely dissapeared out of Ariana's sight.

Ariana lowered her head and looked at the card, her lips puckering slightly in bitterness.

For four years, she had been proving to him that her love was for him, not for his title or wealth.

On top of that, she had waited for another 15 days for him to make a choice between his family and his lover.

In the end, Ariana lost.

She had put in twice the amount of effort in the relationship.

After all the effort she had put in, she decided it was time to stop dragging her feet.

She quickly followed him to the elevator and caught up with him before the doors closed, "I'm serious about the divorce. I'll leave with nothing, I don't want a single cent from the Davies family!"

As soon as Ariana's voice fell, the divorce papers were thrown into the trash bin with a clang.

"Get your facts straight before you act impulsively!" Bobbie said, extremely annoyed.

Ariana knew that Bobbie, like the others in the Davies family, thought that she would not survive without him because she had no education, no degree, no good background, and no job.

"Don't worry, I'm very clear about the situation." Ariana picked up the paper, dusted it off, and thrusted it back into his hands, "It's after office hours, so it's too late to go through the procedures now. Let's meet at nine tomorrow morning. Don't be late."

With that said, Ariana left before Bobbie.

Downstairs, she leaned against the wall and gasped for breath as if the air had been knocked out of her.

Ariana had used to act submissive around Bobbie, so her actions earlier required quite a bit of courage.

Wiping her face, Ariana sniffled as tears streamed down her cheeks.

It was harsh to draw a line with someone she had loved for nearly a decade, and the pain was real, too.

"Alas..." After a long while, Ariana finally stood up, casting a mocking glance at the reflection of her fragile self in the glass.

To spend four years and fifteen days to prove that a man could never fall in love with her was probably the worst deal she had ever made in her life.

Early the next morning, Ariana went for the divorce.

However, she waited until eleven o'clock, and there was still no sign of Bobbie.

Ariana made multiple calls to Bobbie during that time, but he never picked up his phone.

Ariana knew Bobbie was busy, but she still went to his office, hoping to resolve the matter within the day.

As soon as Ariana arrived at the company building, she saw Bobbie standing in front of a car, one hand holding the car door open and the other resting against the top of the door.

A woman leaned on Bobbie carefully while getting into the car.

When the woman turned her head back, Ariana got a clear view of her face. It was the woman that Bobbie had always been thinking about.

Ariana chuckled, a sarcastic smile touching her lips.

She had thought he hadn't pursued the divorce due to his busy schedule, but it turned out he was just accompanying his lover.

The woman had returned for half a month, and he never stepped away from her the whole time. Now what, were they that reluctant to part?

As Bobbie's beloved left in the vehicle, Ariana briskly walked up to Bobbie, "I've been waiting for you. Even if you’re busy, you could've spared a bit of time for our divorce."

Upon seeing Ariana, Bobbie's relaxed face immediately turned sour, with a hint of annoyance his eyes. "Our company currently has a few important projects under evaluation. We cannot afford to have any negative news!"

Ariana found the excuse laughable.

Compared to their divorce, news of his affair with that woman would be much more negative.

Before Ariana could voice out her thoughts, Bobbie's assistant ran over to tell Bobbie that there was an important task awaiting him.

With that, Bobbie hastily left with the assistant.

Bobbie had once again vanished without a trace.

However, Ariana did not want to wait any longer.

All Ariana could do was send Bobbie a message, asking him to spare her some dignity for the sake of their four-year marriage.

She then specified a time for the two of them to meet.

In the afternoon, Ariana arrived at court exactly on time. There, she saw Bobbie.

Bobbie stood by the car, looking as gorgeous as a Greek God. He looked as if he just came out of a painting.

Even though they were about to get a divorce, Ariana still could not help but become captivated by Bobbie's dashing appearance.

Immediately after, a wave of sadness hit Ariana.

If she had known that their journey would end up like this, would she still have made that bold decision back then?

With a sigh, she instinctively touched her left eye, a detail known to few—she had lost her sight in her left eye.

Suppressing the whirlwind of emotions in her heart, Ariana quickly walked over and handed Bobbie the divorce papers. "I've already signed it. Once you sign it, we can proceed with the formalities."

This time, Bobbie hesitated only briefly before signing the papers without further comment.

The procedures were quick; they filled out a few forms and had them stamped.

"Both of you now have a 30-day cooling-off period. Within 30 days, if either of you regret the divorce, you may revoke it."

The staff did not issue Ariana and Bobbie a divorce certificate instantly. Instead, he explained that the certificate would only be released after the cooling-off period.

"May we skip the cooling-off period and get the divorce certificate now?" Ariana asked, intending to sever her ties with Bobbie swiftly.

"It's not possible." The staff shook his head.

Ariana could only turn to look at Bobbie, but the latter remained silent and strode out of the room.

Ariana took over the informed consent paper handed to her and signed her name on it.

She knew that Bobbie would never regret their divorce, and the cooling-off period was merely delaying their acquisition of the divorce certificate.

Once the process was over, Ariana caught up with Bobbie. “So, Mr. Davies, see you in a month...”

Before Ariana could finish speaking, Bobbie had already stepped into his car and shut the door heavily.

The car drove away, leaving behind a cold breeze.

Ariana helplessly shook her head. Even after the divorce, Bobbie was still like that.

She stood in her spot for a moment before calling a number, "I'm divorced now. Come pick me up."
