On a very sunny Thursday afternoon. In the luxurious seven-star mansion of the 'Dons', the reverberating sounds of a heated argument enveloped the tranquillity of the Turkish-style mansion.
"You should get married if you must inherit all of these." Don Louis III said it was obvious he was referring to the family's property.
"So, just to inherit some piece of cake, I should go marry someone's daughter, keep her at home and then starve her of emotional happiness!" Raymond explained his father's meaning of marriage.
"What happened to getting married out of love, Mr Don Louis?" Raymond asked. He felt disgusted by his father's sense of reasoning.
"Love!!" Don Louis III scoffed mockingly.
"What love?" He asked with a nonchalant attitude. "When I married your mother, I didn't for love. I simply married her because it was a necessity if I had to inherit all of these things you grew up enjoying, from my father. That's how it works in this family." Don Louis III reminded. His voice held that authority of a father, and a powerful one at that.
"And what makes you think I'd want to lead my life following your footsteps? What makes you think I would marry a woman I do not feel anything towards, and then after having a son with her that would inherit my goddam wealth, I neglect her, depriving her of emotional happiness and satisfaction?” Raymond asked, slightly raising his voice at some point as he threw his father's past deeds to his face.
A long silence followed shortly as the two main glared each other challengingly in the eyes.
The truth was that in reality, Raymond had since lost all the respect and regard he once had towards his father. After he had left his family and gone to some other city to start a life for himself, he suffered a great deal. He had worked hard for several years, like the son of a rich man feeding pigs. But, after over ten years, he had returned to A city as an extremely successful businessman. The sufferings he had endured all those years were a result of this man standing in front of him. Those harsh conditions in which he had lived then, had built him to be who he was currently. Country A's most feared and famous businessman. He this title, he got because everyone in the country knows that he is a self-made Billionaire. Therefore, since then, Raymond had built a kind of aloof barrier over life. Especially his father.
"You had better get yourself a wife, and that too, sooner. Else, you might as well say goodbye to your inheritance." Don Louis lll threatened. In reality, he already knew that with the kind of wealth his son possessed currently, he wouldn't be needing the inheritance. When all he got from Raymond was a cold nonchalant look, he sighed subconsciously.
"Since you want to do love, I'm giving you three months to fall in love and get married. Else you can as well forget you have a father, and an inheritance." Don Louis lll threatened. Although he knew Raymond already had lost every ounce of emotion he felt towards him, he was still his father and as a father, he could say he knew his son to an extent. He knew that amidst the mask of coldness and aloofness Raymond wore, there was still that had always wanted his father's attention. So, he thought he could threaten him with his fatherhood. But, was that the case?
Raymond looked at the man who was indirectly threatening to disown him. Although his usually calm face held no expression, he was silently mocking the man who still thought of him as the ten-year-old he had neglected and hurt in the past.
"I stopped having a father many years ago," Raymond said coldly and then turned his back on his father.
"If you want an heir to your wealth, then you know who to call." And just like that, Raymond strolled out of the house that had once upon a time sheltered his childhood.
