Chapter 1

Nyx POV

“On your knees!” I barked.

He dropped to his knees so fast like his legs could no longer carry him. I didn't need to be told he was frightened. Sweat was pouring down his face and he was already shaking. The fear in his eyes only made me smile. I liked it when they trembled in front of me.

I leaned back on the chair, spreading my legs wide. My voice came out cold. “Make me cum. You know what happens if you fail.”

He swallowed hard. He crawled closer, his hands shaking as he reached for me. I grabbed his hair and shoved his head between my thighs. “Don’t waste my time,” I growled.

He started licking, his tongue moving in a clumsy and desperate way. His whole body trembled like a leaf in the wind. I could feel how hard he was trying, how badly he wanted to live.

It was Pathetic. Pathetic because I knew. I knew he wasn't going to make me cum. No man has and no one will. Only a woman's touch could come close to stirring anything within me.

I pressed his face harder against me just to hear him choke. My laugh was bitter. “Do your best,” I whispered. “It won’t matter.”

Inside, my thoughts spiraled. I wasn't doing this because of pleasure, or wait! It was for pleasure but not in that way. I'd get the pleasure when I kill him for not making me cum. Men were despicable creatures and each day, I look for an excuse to end one of them.

My name is Nyx Fender. And I am an Alpha. Surprising, right? Because an alpha is never supposed to be a woman. But I am living proof that the rules don’t matter when the moon goddess chooses.

My father was the Alpha King. He was revered and feared. Even other alphas lowered their heads when he walked past. He had power in his veins, but he wasn’t a monster. People loved him, except his own brother.

According to them, they'd waited for years before they had us. My mother had given birth to three girls, triplets. While it was a thing of joy for us, my uncle saw an opportunity.

No male child meant the throne would go to him. But all his ambition came crumbling when My father declared that one of us would be alpha. My uncle’s heart turned black.

The council called it madness. It had never been heard of that a woman ruled the pack but my father stood his ground and that didn't sit well with my uncle so he poisoned us. My parents. My sisters. Me.

Somehow, I managed to survive. I was only ten then. I knew it would be dangerous to stay back so I left. I was weak and alone but I didn't stay weak for long.

From ten till eighteen, the world showed me hell. I was raped. Sold like property. Beaten till I bled. Starved till my stomach turned to stone. I learned to steal, to kill, to harden. Every man who touched me carved hatred deeper into my bones.

And to make matters worse, I was a late bloomer. I didn't get my wolf till I was twenty and that too brought another form of torture to me. But when my wolf finally came, I was already a shell. My heart had no softness left. My wolf gave me power, but it wasn’t enough. I wanted more. I wanted it to be limitless.

So I made a deal with the moon goddess. I told her I didn’t want to be just an Alpha. I wanted power that had no end. She gave it to me, but at a price. Piece by piece, my heart would turn to stone. When the last piece hardens, I will die. Unless I find a way to soften it again.

I don’t care. Death has chased me before and I outran it. I’ll choose power every time.

By the time I returned, my uncle was sitting on the throne that belonged to me. I tore it from him with blood.

From there, I didn’t stop. Pack by pack, land by land, I conquered. I built empires. I broke men. Now I am the richest, most powerful Alpha in the world. Alpha Queen.

But all that didn’t fill the hole in my chest. I was still angry and no matter what I did, the anger never went away. So for now, I'll do what pacifies it a little.

“Pathetic,” I hissed, dragging myself out of my thoughts and shoving the man’s head harder against me. He whined, tongue shaking, desperate to keep going.

Then I felt it, his movement shifting. His hands pushed higher, trying to slide where they had no right.

My eyes snapped open. “What do you think you’re doing?”

He froze, stuttering, mouth still wet. I didn’t wait for an answer. My claws slid out in one smooth motion. With one strike, I slashed clean through his neck. His head hit the floor with a dull thud. His body twitched once, then nothing.

The room was silent except for my breathing. That's what they're like. Greedy, pathetic things.

Then, three knocks on the door.

“Come in,” I said calmly.

One of my men stepped inside. His eyes widened when he saw the headless body on the floor. He froze like ice, his mouth opening, closing, no words coming out.

I leaned back, licking my lips, still glowing with the rush of violence. “You’d better have something good for me. Or you’ll join him.”

He swallowed hard. “We… we found him. We found your uncle, Silas but he's under the protection of the Northern Pack Alliance. Attacking him directly would mean war"

I smiled. War is what I was formed from. If it'll take war for me to have his head, so be it.
