Chapter 1

Ah, ow...

All the bones in Alivia's body seemed to be broken as she struggled to wake up from the claws of sleep. There suddenly came the sound of crying in her ears...

"My child, you're finally awake... How could you kill yourself just for a man?" Before Alivia could react, a warm body held her tightly in its arms.

It was a strange feeling. Alivia didn't recognize the woman who was apparently her mother. She had a dignified, beautiful face, and looked only to be in her thirties. Her tear-filled eyes were full of love for this person Alivia was supposed to be.

Alivia felt dizzy and couldn't figure out what was going on.

She had fallen from the 18th floor of a building, having died in the process. She could even hear her skull cracking when she landed on the ground...

"Don't..." With tears streaming down her face, Alivia covered her ears and cried, "Don't... no!"

The woman in front of her became even more panicked, calling out, "Kyndal, dear, what is it? Tell Mom what's going on."

"B*stard, you still want to make a fool of yourself? If you keep on making trouble, I'll send you to the mental hospital!" A male voice suddenly sounded, making Alivia come to her senses again.

She looked up at the man in a daze. He was in his forties, standing all and straight, a handsome man.

The crying woman suddenly stood up and glared at the man. "Who are you calling a b*stard, Elian Pratt? Kyndal has just woken up and her body has not recovered yet. You don't have to care about her but why are you still calling her names and yelling at her? You're the b*stard here!"

As the woman cried, the man couldn't stand it anymore. He sighed helplessly and said, "Didn't I tell her not to mess around in the first place? Even I'm embarrassed of what she did before..."

"What embarrassment? Kyndal and Conrad were childhood sweethearts. Isn't it a good thing for them to marry now? I don't care what you have to do but you have to make sure she marries into his family..." The woman began whining.

Alivia, who was already confused, was now even moreso. Where was this place? Who was she? What were these people talking about?

The husband and wife were still arguing about these Kyndal and Conrad people when the door of the ward was pushed open. Two men, one old and one young, came in. They had an imposing and superior air about them.

Their arrival made the temperature in the room drop sharply.

Alivia's head had been hurting from the quarrel between the parents, so she was quite grateful for the men's sudden appearance. She looked up excitedly.

Wow, the younger one was handsome.

His face seemed carved with a knife, having sharp eyes with deep brown wells in them. It made people unable to move their eyes away from him. His angular jaw and lips made people want to kiss him, seeing how that felt.

Alivia was a sucker for good-looking men. When her eyes fell on the man's face, her surprised and infatuated expression was immediately apparent, rousing a disdainful snort from the young man.

"Conrad, apologize to Kyndal." The elder man's face darkened as he glared at the young man. Their eyes met as what smelled like gunpowder filled the air.

Seeing this, Elian hurried to welcome them. "Mr. Harrell, it's not Conrad's fault. It was all because of Kyndal's stubbornness."

The chaotic memories in Kyndal's gradually became clear. The handsome young man in front of her was called Conrad, and the old man was his grandfather. Both of them were part of the upper echelons in society.

"It was Conrad's fault." Mr. Harrell stated while looking at Kyndal. There was a glint of pity in his eyes as he did. Kyndal realized that, according to the original owner's memory, Mr. Harrell had been very kind to her before her passing.

Under his grandfather's fierce gaze, the young man reluctantly walked forward, though his face was still full of disdain and stubbornness.

Mr. Harrell looked at Kyndal with a kind look in his eyes. "Kyndal, Conrad has hurt you, so now you can do with him as you see fit. You can go and get married right away. No one will stop you."

As soon as he finished speaking, two voices rang out at the same time.

"I don't want to."

"I don't want to."

One came from Conrad, and the other from Kyndal, which surprised everyone in the ward.

After the moment passed, Mr. Harrell thought for a moment and said to Kyndal, "Kyndal, you don't have to worry about this foolish grandson of mine acting up again. I promise to you today that you will be wife of the Harrell family's next heir, no matter what."

This was equivalent to telling everyone that if Conrad was unwilling to marry Kyndal, his position as family heir would change.

Alivia looked up in shock. She was not surprised by the sneer on Conrad's lips, however. He was a determined and prideful person.

He must be quite angry with this situation his grandfather had forced him into.

Alivia rubbed her hands in embarrassment and said with a smile, "Grandpa Harrell, you're mistaken. I didn't commit suicide because of Conrad. I couldn't fall asleep and took sleeping pills to help, accidentally eating too much in the process. So please don't force Conrad anymore. You can take a horse to water but you cannot make him drink, isn't that right? I've also given much thought about our future, and from now on he's nothing more than a friend to me. Nothing else."

She had thought that she had made herself clear enough, but to her surprise, the mocking look on Conrad's face grew. He snorted coldly, "Playing hard to get? Not the first time."

This was the first time she had heard Conrad speak. His voice was pleasant, but his harsh tone... a pity.

From his point of view, Kyndal was putting on an act with his grandfather, trying to make him cave in.

Alivia was speechless once again. She had just woken up in another body, and her memory was still very vague. Obviously she had no idea what Conrad was talking about, but she was still trying her best to placate the situation.

"Hah..." Kyndal smiled awkwardly. She looked at Conrad and said self-deprecatingly, "It seems I've caused much trouble for you. I'm really sorry, but don't worry, I'll prove my word by my actions in the future."
