"Andrea, this is my last shift for today." Lauretta said while taking off her Apron.
"Well, you have to wait for the witch to take over before you can leave," Andrea said nonchalantly.
"Wait, not again! Why is she always so f*cking late? I feel like tearing her apart!" She Rolled her eyes so terribly that she looked like a duckling.
Just then, someone walked in. She seemed to be in a haste. Her hair was packed in a loosed ponytail and she was putting on baggy shorts and a shirt too big for her, she seemed so tired and weak, walking as quickly as she could to the counter. She stepped behind it with her head bent down.
"Camille, what's your excuse today?" Andrea questioned, looking really angry
Lauretta on the other hand was rolling her eyes so hard that they seemed to want to pop out of her eye sockets.
"I am so sorry, I had to do something important. It won't happen again." The lady Camille answered so humbly still without lifting her eyes from the floor.
"Whatever! You can take over from Lauretta but I won't spare you if this repeats itself, am I understood?" Camille only nodded In response to Andrea's question while trying to avoid looking up.
Lauretta hissed, took her purse from the changing room and marched out angrily, staring angrily at Camille who was moving to the changing room to get changed. She could overhear Lauretta calling her a b!tch, more like a whisper. Ever since she was little, she had heightened senses. She could hear and see from afar, she also had an extraordinary strength which seemed strange because she was actually thin and doesn't even go to the gym house.
"Hurry up Camille, gosh! You are so slow!" Andrea shouted at Camille. Andrea was the owner of TopRich Cafe. She is what you would call "Petite", with her olive brown skin and her cute big dark eyes that makes her look like an 18 year old teenager but she was actually 35 and still unmarried, maybe because of her rude and wicked ways.
Remembering where she was, Camille scurried off, tying her apron to attend to the impatient customers trooping in.
It was at 10pm that she was finally done with her shift. She walked to the changing room, removed her apron, picked up her duffle bag and walked back to the counter, standing before Andrea and still looking at the floor. She stood for a few minutes before Andrea raised up her head from the money she was counting.
"What is it ?" She asked looking annoyed and for the first time since she came, Camille spoke a word to Andrea that was not about customers' orders.
"Its actually my pay day ma'am,"
Andrea turned to the counter, counted some dollar bills. Taking an envelope, she put in the money and handed it over to Camille who immediately collected and counted it. Seeing it was complete, she lifted up her eyes and looked at Andrea smiling and uttering the word "thanks" And for a moment Andrea could swear Camille's blue eyes sparkled. She shivered slightly and Camille immediately brought her head down, apologising profusely.
"I am so sorry ma'am Andrea."
"Just get the hell out! Next time you look at me in the face, you will be fired for real!" Andrea barked harshly.
Camille immediately hurried out, while trying so hard not to cry. Once outside, she lifted her eyes to the sky and smiled brightly with unshed tears in her eyes, making her blue eyes glitter beautifully, she sighed tiredly and sadly. Looking down, she started humming a song of her favorite singer "Billie Elish" titled "when the party is over," while heading to her house which was just a few miles away. She couldn't afford to take a cab, so she always walked home.
While walking, she suddenly felt uneasy as if someone was watching her. She looked around but didn't see anyone looking her way so she hastened her steps. Just at the the last turn to her house, she saw something terrifying staring at her unblinkingly. She would have thought it was a dog but it looked too big and scary for a dog and it's eyes were shining brightly, looking so red. She was scared to death but couldn't move from where she stood. Her mind was screaming a warning but her body seemed drawn to it.
The big scary animal started moving towards her direction and as if released from a spell, she broke into a race without looking back at all. She ran as if her life depended on it until she got to her doorstep. She tried to calm her terrified self down before stepping in so she won't scare her sleeping Aunt.
When she was calm enough, she took out the spare key from her duffel bag and opened the door, stepped in and locked it hurriedly. She was still seeing flashes of the terrifying big dog she had seen, turning round absent mindedly as she walked into the kitchen, only to see the light on and something sitting down on the floor, and without looking at it properly, she screamed loudly
"Geez! What the hell Camille? It's just me, your Aunt!" Her aunt shouted above her screams.
"Jeez!!! thank God its just you Aunt Aggie, I got sacred for a minute!" She replied breathing really hard.
"Camil you really looked so scared as if you had seen something terrifying... Are you sure you are OK? Aunt Agnes asked looking so worried while walking to Camille who was still at the doorpost looking pale.
"Did something happen? Are u alright? Infact, I want u to stop doing this late night shift, its dangerous!" Aunt Agnes said in a rush while hugging Camille who seemed to need the warmth of her beloved aunt.
"I am totally fine Aunt and its not as if its that dangerous doing a late night shift, besides, the pay is quite big you know? And we need the money badly for your drugs and other things..."
Her Aunt was asthmatic.
Disengaging from the hug, aunt Agnes stared at Camil with a worried sick face
"I brought you some food," her aunt said, making Camille to grin happily when she sighted a tray on her side desk. Her aunt really rarely made meals but her food was always delicious.
"Thanks Aunt, you are the best." She said heading to her side desk to see the goodies her aunt made for her, she grinned widely when she saw the Bacon and hot steamed Choco... Aunt Agnes surely knew her favorite! Sitting on the chair, she immediately started devouring it while her aunt smiled at her
"Awwwwn" her aunt cooed "you really like eating my food... well hurry up, you should go to sleep after finishing these, cause you shouldn't be late on your first day, first impression matters alot." Auny Agnes stated, smiling sweetly at Camille who immediately wore a frown on her face.
"Seriously aunt, I don't feel like going to school anymore..." Camille said solemnly while taking a big bite off the Bacon her aunt made and she immediately moaned at how delicious it tasted.
"I really hate all schools... No matter where I am transferred to, there is always trouble." she shrugged, taking a sip of her hot steamed choco.
"Well, you have to Camil, just try to stay out of trouble," aunt Agnes said as she sat beside Camille who seemed very busy with devouring her food.
"Aunt you know I always try to, but they never let me be... they don't even talk to me except when they try to bully me, and of course and I can't take that knowing fully well I can deal with them." Aunt Agnes sighed, putting her hands on Camille's shoulders, drew her close and said calmly, "For my sake dear, just only for my sake stay out of trouble and always ignore them whenever they say something awful to hurt your feelings, just have in mind that you are way better than them, OK?"
"I will try aunt, but I am making No promise. Whomever wants it gets it!" Camille said in a serious tone, folding her hands in a tight fists
"Good girl"Aunt Agnes patted her cheeks lovingly. When she got to her door, she turned to see Camille and smiled and whispered to Camille "hey buttercup, Good night!" Camille smiled brightly at her aunt.
"Good night Aunt Aggie, I love you."
"I love you too baby."
Aunt Agnes replied sweetly, turned and stepped into her room, she blew a kiss to Camille and closed her door gently.
Camille rolled her eyes and sighed frustratedly at the thought that she had to go to school.
Lying on the bed and trailing her fingers absentmindedly on her beautiful birthmark, a big tattoo of a crescent moon, she didn't notice how her eyes glowed beautifully.
