I was awakened by the sound of my phone ringing. I reach out to the bedside table to find my phone. I checked on who's calling and it was my friend Jessie.
"Hey..." I uttered as I yawned.
"Do you have anything to do today? There's an open fair event at our school. You can hang out with us"
I really didn't feel like going. I just want to lay in my bed the whole day.
"Nah". I glanced at the clock and it's 8:36 AM. My first class will start at 9:00 AM.
"Oh come on, it would be fun!"
Well, I am definitely late for school and I really want to ditch classes. Besides, I haven't seen my friends for a while now.
"Okay... Fine!" I let out a big sigh and got up on my bed.
"Yes! See you at our school!"
-----
As expected, there are lots of people at their school. I met my friends, Jessie and Mike, at the parking lot in front of their admin building. We've been best buddies since high school and we made a promise to study in the same university for college but my father enrolled me in a business academy. My friends knew about my damaged relationship with my father, so we just agreed to meet and hang out from time to time.
"It's good to see you again, bro!" Mike greeted me as I closed the car door and walked over to them.
I was happy to see my friends but I just nodded to greet them back. Based on Jessie's reaction I knew he saw through me.
"Until when will you keep yourself under the radar? We're young! You should be having fun."
"You know I can longer do that"
"I know... I know... But we're missing the old you!"
"I think I know what to do! Let's find someone perfect for you... Someone that can make you happy again" Mike suggested like it will make any difference.
"As if such a person exists," I said with my straight face. I already lost the reason to smile.
"Of course, we all have that someone destined to be with us. There were lots of girls on our campus, I'll introduce you to some of them, " Mike sounded certain as he said that.
"Whatever..." I looked away from them and watched all the people enjoy the event. Then I thought... is there really someone around here that can take me out of my misery?
I was taken aback from my thoughts when Jessie put his arm around my shoulder and said,
"Then once your heart found that someone, you can get your names written in the stars."
I cringed when I heard that.
"Shut up, Jessie!"
"Great! Let's go hunt for girls!" He said then lead me on the way.
----
As they planned, they introduced me to every girl that they know around the campus, from top students to cheerleaders. I didn't find any of them interesting, in fact, I didn't even take a second look at anyone after I greeted them. I knew this was just a waste of time.
Hours had passed and I got bored. I told my friends that I would go home instead. On my way to the parking lot, I heard someone singing. Out of curiosity, I followed the voice and there he was. A guy was sitting on a bench with his friends, he's playing the guitar and singing to them. His voice was soothing to my ear and it calmed me. I stared at him and saw him smile. At that moment, my heart fluttered like crazy and my face got warm. I can't explain what I'm feeling... why am I feeling this...I had fallen for a girl or two, but this time it's different... he's a guy like me...
His eyes... his smile... his voice... it all captivated me.
Out of the blue... I smiled.
And just like the last words of his song...
I am mesmerized... mesmerized by you...
