"Maze!"
I smiled sweetly as I saw my best friend, Calcifer, running towards me with arms wide open. He gave me a tight hug as soon as I came near him. I hugged him back caressed his back.
"I miss you," he said as he was the one who broke our hug.
"I know," I jokingly said with my brows up.
The summer break was over so we need to go back to school again. We were now second year in college and we're still classmates. Calcifer and I are . Calcifer and I stufied st a Catholic school here in Manila, Philippines. He lives far away from my home so we can just see each other if we're inside the campus.
On summer, we still see each other but not very often.
"How's your summer? I'm sure you didn't enjoy it a lot since I'm not there with you," he boastfully said and even smirked.
"Whatever," I rolled my eyes at him and starts walking through the hallway of our building.
Calcifer and I talked about how was our summer since classes didn't start yet. We then went inside new classroom as the bell rings. He really follows me everywhere I go! We were seating next to each other and even goes out for lunch together like we usually do.
Our classmates and schoolmates even think that we were dating! Well, I even hope so. I didn't even know when did I start liking him, my best friend. At first, it was scary. But as the time passes by, I got a hold of my feelings and decided not to tell him about it. It was just too risky. I'm afraid that our friendship will end the moment I'll confess.
"Hi, Cali, I like you, please like me back."
I gasped as I read the letter from Calcifer's hand given by this girl standing in front of our table. We were just having lunch peacefully together when this girl right here approached us-- well, approached Cali and handed him a letter.
I can't believe that people are still giving letters these days to confess their feelings? That is so last season!
"I'm sorry but I can't like you back," he apologize to the girl.
I rolled my eyes secretly and played with my food. I am stabbing my chicken using my fork as I stared the girl using my annoyed eyes. She didn't notice my gazed so I scanned her whole body.
Typical college students now a days. She's pretty and if they two will date, they will be a perfect couple. But no! I won't let them date!
She's pretty but I'm prettier! They look good together but Cali and I looked the best together!
"Why, Cali? Why can't you like me back?" The girl said in a very annoying tone.
I mocked her and pouted. I saw from my peripheral vision that Cali looked at me, like he was asking for my help on how to get rid of this girl. I ignored him and just ate.
"It's not you, It's me. I'm sorry," I heard Cali said.
I almost choked from my food when I heard him say that! I pursed my lips, trying to stop myself from laughing.
"It's not you, it's me," I mockery whispered. What kind of excuse is that?
"Oh, sure it's not you," I heard the girl uttered.
I put my utensils down and wiped my lips with napkin and looked at her. I saw her already looking at me with brows creasing. I also creased my brow and looked at her up and down like I was judging her.
"Or maybe it's her?" She pointed me and looked at Cali.
My jaw dropped in an instant when she rolled her eyes at me! I clenched my fists and fight the urge not to cause a scene. I treasure first day of school so much so I decided not to fight with this girl right here.
"Oh, no! Mazikeen is not the reason why I can't like you back. Please, stay her out of it." Cali said calmly and hold my hand under the table.
He really knew whenever I'm mad. He caressed my hand using his thumb and squeezed it gently. He looked at me and smiled. The girl had no choice but to walked away in annoyance. I sighed and massage the bridge of my nose lightly.
"Sorry about that," Cali said before letting go of my hand.
I looked at him and stared at his face for a minute. I saw him smiled and I blinked many times as I realized what I did.
He pursed his lips and winked at me. "I know I'm handsome, Mazikeen. Stop staring at me, I might melt," he jokingly said.
I made a face and rolled my eyes at him. "I'm just thinking why girls are drooling over you. I can't understand why," I said and
gave him a fake smile.
"Because I'm handsome, that's why," he said.
"Really? Why can't I see that?" I sarcastically said.
His brows furrowed when he realized what I said. I laughed softly and stood up, leaving him there. The bell's not ringing yet but I'm thinking of going to the library. It's been ages since I last read a book. I felt his presence in my back that made me smirk. Surely this man can't live without me.
"Why are we even here?" He asked boredly. He puts his face on the table and closed his eyes.
"Why are you here? I didn't order you to follow me here," I almost whispered while my eyes are still fixed to the book I'm reading.
"Yeah, but I want to follow wherever you go," he replied.
"Even afterlife?" I joked.
He pouted. I continued reading the book until another girl came to us again. Ugh, this is so annoying! This is the reason why sometimes I don't want Cali around. Having him with me gives too much attention.
Well, I like hanging out with him, I like being with him but I like it when there's only us-- the two of us! I want him alone!
After getting a refusal from Cali, the girl immediately walked away with an almost crying face. I felt guilty. Why does Cali have to be so handsome, anyway? I have too many rivals!
"Why can't you just have a girlfriend so that girls will stop bothering you?" I said and rolled my eyes.
Yeah, he should probably get a girlfriend. But I won't approve it unless it's me. I'm that selfish when it comes to him.
"I don't want to," I heard him replied in a low voice.
"Why? You clearly told me last school year that you want to have a girlfriend. Why can't you just picked one?" I muttered.
My eyes are still busy reading the book that I got when I felt him moved. He hold my wrist and that earned a glance from me. When I put the book down, that's when I realized that our faces are too close. It was like just five inches away! I didn't blinked and just stared at his blue beautiful eyes.
My heart is beating rapidly and I hope he doesn't feel nor hear it. But I think he did because we were just too close to each other.
"W-what if... What if I'll date you?" He muttered and my jaw drop in an instant trying to sink in what he just said.
